Job description
The Inspire Centre is a bilingual, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth with physical, developmental, and communication needs across the districts of Cochrane and Temiskaming and the James Bay communities, offering evidence-based rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, recreation therapy, and social work. As we continue to expand our client-centered, collaborative programs, we are seeking Physiotherapists who will play a key role in assessing and treating children who are experiencing concerns in their motor development while working closely with families, interprofessional team members, and satellite community locations to deliver meaningful, accessible care across Northern Ontario.

Responsibilities

Conduct physiotherapy assessments for children from birth to 19 (or up to 21 when applicable), using standardized tools to evaluate motor skills, mobility, gait, strength, tone, and functional abilities.

Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and clinical best practices, tailored to diverse pediatric needs including developmental delays, torticollis, CP, motor concerns, and other physical challenges.

Provide direct physiotherapy intervention in-centre, through specialized clinics, in satellite locations, and in community or home settings as required.

Collaborate closely with families and caregivers, providing coaching, education, home exercise recommendations, and family-centered support to empower involvement in the child’s development.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team—including SLPs, OTs, therapy assistants, social workers, and recreation therapists—to coordinate care and participate in joint planning for shared clients.

Provide clinical direction and oversight to Therapy Assistants who deliver components of the physiotherapy programming under supervision.

Participate in specialized clinics such as neonatal follow-up clinics, supporting early identification and early intervention needs for infants and young children.

Manage a varied caseload that may include infants, preschoolers, school-aged children, and youth with complex needs, adjusting priorities based on referral urgency and clinical risk.

Travel to outreach communities within the Centre’s catchment area (including remote Northern communities) to deliver equitable access to services.

Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Participate in ongoing professional development, mentorship opportunities, and training initiatives supported by the Centre, particularly for new graduates.

Contribute to a positive, collaborative, family-centered workplace culture, reflecting the organization’s values of respect, partnership, and evidence-based practice.

Skills & Qualifications

Registered Physiotherapist in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, or eligible for registration.

Experience working with pediatric populations or demonstrated interest and transferable skills suitable for pediatric practice.

Ability to perform standardized physiotherapy assessments for infants, children, and youth with diverse developmental, physical, motor, and communication needs.

Valid Vulnerable Sector Check, due to working directly with children.

Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel to satellite and remote Northern Ontario communities as part of service delivery.

Strong clinical skills in assessing and treating concerns such as torticollis, developmental delays, gait abnormalities, cerebral palsy, motor coordination challenges, and mobility-related needs.

Ability to create and implement individualized treatment plans rooted in evidence-based practice.

Competence in supervising and providing clinical direction to therapy assistants.

Comfortable delivering care across multiple settings including in-centre, community, home, and specialized clinic environments.

Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams (OT, SLP, Social Work, Recreation Therapy, etc.).

Strong family-centered approach aligned with Inspire Centre values, including respect, partnership, and culturally informed care.

Ability to coach and empower families with home programming and developmental strategies.

High level of adaptability and comfort working within Northern and remote communities with varying needs.

Commitment to ongoing professional development, mentorship, and continuous learning.
