Main Function Reporting to the Manager of Solid Waste Support Services and/or the Manager of Collection and Recycling, this position is responsible for development, collection and maintenance of solid waste data in accordance with provincial regulations and the by‑laws and policies of the City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) Council, supporting quality customer service outcomes and the Business Plan for the Division.
Duties
Co‑ordinate solid waste funding program reporting requirements.
Research and identify funding sources for solid waste initiatives.
Liaise with regulatory agencies, funding sources and CGS staff regarding reporting requirements.
Prepare schedules and coordinate collection of data from various sections within the division. Ensure necessary forms are complete and submit them in a timely manner to the appropriate funding agency.
Update database and/or inventory of solid waste records.
Create new database and/or inventory of solid waste records, statistics, etc.
Assist in preparing grant information and assemble data required for payment from funding agencies.
Investigate and report variances or discrepancies in records.
Perform property owner searches, as required.
Compile statistical data from previous year.
Draft various correspondence, forms or billing advices, when required.
Monitor funding revenues on an ongoing basis.
Perform field visits to update or establish solid waste records/inventories.
Verify cash deposits and prepare PeopleSoft purchase orders, as requested.
Relieve the Division’s Customer Service Representative and Solid Waste Clerk during periods of vacation, overload or absence.
Develop and maintain thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and applicable Provincial Legislation.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Training: Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) and some post‑secondary education including courses in business, finance, computer science, economics, statistics, etc.
Experience: Over one year up to and including two and a half years of related experience.
Working knowledge of applicable solid waste legislation, regulations and by‑laws.
Working knowledge of financial systems and accounting.
Demonstrated ability with computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (file maintenance, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PeopleSoft, customer relationship management software, fleet management, Traffic Studio, Wasteworks, GIS software and other web‑based applications and reporting systems).
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with staff and outside agencies in a courteous and effective manner.
Strong organizational, numeric sense and data input/management skills.
Excellent use of English – verbal and written.
French – verbal and written skills are an asset.
Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
Physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possessing a valid driver’s licence, having an acceptable driving record and personal insurance coverage.
