In this role, you oversee the full business operations of your Sunterra Market and guide all internal departments—including Culinary, Butcher, Bakery, Café, and Grocery/Retail—to deliver convenient, high quality meal solutions and legendary customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership, Culture & People Development
Serve as the host of the market, modeling professionalism, positivity, and pride.
Exemplify and train legendary customer service, ensuring consistency across all departments.
Recruit, interview, and hire top talent as a brilliant selector and recruiter.
Provide coaching and development to Assistant Managers, Team Leads, and Team Members through:
Weekly 1:1s
Performance evaluations
Daily coaching and follow up
Succession planning
Create a cohesive, high performing team through clear expectations, accountability, and recognition.
Ensure flawless new-hire onboarding, system training, and ongoing development.
Uphold Sunterra dress code, professionalism, punctuality, and safety conduct at all times.
Business Performance: Sales, Margin & Labor Control
Own and deliver sales performance, margin targets, labor cost control, and waste reduction.
Conduct weekly analysis of KPIs including sales, labor, waste, mix, and margin performance; apply corrective actions with urgency.
Drive category profitability by supporting accurate ordering, rotation, inventory integrity, and adherence to Sunterra standards.
Provide oversight to culinary and production planning to ensure alignment with margin expectations, prep charts, and waste control.
Ensure all store‑to‑store transfers, product costs, and inventory movements are accurate and timely.
Partner with Head Office and Purchasing teams to optimize cost, mix, and promotional effectiveness.
Labor Management & Pro Forma Scheduling
Build and approve pro forma schedules that balance service needs, productivity, and labor targets.
Monitor deployment vs. sales throughout each day and coach real‑time adjustments.
Train Assistant Managers on forecasting, scheduling strategy, and Sacred Hours routines.
Ensure labor usage aligns with operational planning and weekly financial goals.
Merchandising & Market Presentation
Ensure all displays and cases are consistently full, colorful, clean, fresh, and abundant.
Lead daily market walks to inspect freshness, rotation, cleanliness, signage accuracy, and merchandising excellence.
Ensure execution of promotions, features, signage, and seasonal merchandising standards.
Work cross‑functionally to ensure prep charts and production levels support abundant displays with minimal waste.
Reinforce Sunterra’s identity in every visual, operational, and guest‑facing detail.
Operational Excellence & Standards Accountability
Ensure all standardized recipes are communicated, updated, and followed without deviation.
Ensure daily routines and checklists for cleanliness, sanitation, receiving, prep charts, temperature logs, and product rotation are completed accurately by leadership teams.
Oversee opening and closing duties, ensuring safety, security, and operational readiness.
Maintain full compliance with Sunterra operational systems including SMS, ordering protocols, inventory systems, staffing systems, and cash handling.
Follow up daily on:
Cash handling and deposits
Labor deployment
Product costs
Delivery execution
Sales analysis
Ensure all store‑to‑store transfers are completed accurately.
Safety, OH&S & Risk Management
Demonstrate full commitment to all occupational health and safety procedures.
Ensure safe work practices across all departments through training, audits, and consistent follow‑up.
Oversee WCB protocols, incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.
Maintain readiness for emergencies (fire, flood, crisis management, evacuation).
Ensure all sanitation and food safety routines are executed and documented accurately.
Communication, Collaboration & Head Office Alignment
Maintain strong communication with Head Office—knowing who to contact for specific operational needs.
Attend and actively participate in rollouts, supplier tours, product meetings, margin seminars, and manager training events.
Support Sunterra initiatives through consistent implementation and feedback.
Influence other Market Managers through excellence in a specific area (“sub portfolio leadership”).
Daily / Weekly / Monthly Routines
Daily
Host the floor; ensure guest service excellence.
Complete market walkthroughs (front & back of house).
Review labor vs. sales and adjust deployment.
Monitor merchandising, cleanliness, and stock levels.
Follow up on cash handling, orders, transfers, and department readiness.
Weekly
Conduct weekly team meeting and daily huddles.
Hold 1:1 meetings with Assistant Managers.
Submit weekly sales, margin, labor, and waste analysis (Monday reporting).
Approve and audit pro forma scheduling.
Oversee weekly production planning, prep charts, and ordering routines.
Conduct safety and sanitation audits.
Monthly / Period
Lead full inventory count and variance review.
Participate in business planning and sales/operational forecasting.
Review performance evaluations and succession plans.
Attend product launches, rollouts, and Head Office meetings.
Complete facility and equipment quality checks.

Minimum 3 years management experience in retail, grocery, food service, or multi‑department operations.
Demonstrated ability to achieve sales, margin, and labor results in high‑volume environments.

Exceptional merchandising skills and a strong eye for presentation.
Knowledge of OH&S, food safety, WCB protocols, and safe work practices.
Proficient with SMS, scheduling systems, inventory systems, and standard business applications.
Business or management education considered an asset.
Working Conditions
