Role Overview Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Senior Accounting Professional plays a key role in the financial management and reporting for mcCallumSather and associated companies. In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role includes direct mentorship from the Director of Finance with a long‑term progression plan to evolve into the Director of Finance role.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Support
Supervise, mentor, and support the Senior Project Accountant.
Supervise, mentor, and support the Junior Accountant, including reviewing reconciliations (bank, credit cards, etc.) and guiding daily tasks.
Financial Operations & Reporting
Collaborate closely with the Director, Finance on day‑to‑day accounting functions, including cheque runs, payroll, and financial guidance for project managers.
Play an active role in preparing monthly financial statements, including consolidated statements, forecasts, and projections.
Support the preparation of materials for shareholder and Board of Directors meetings.
Analysis & Special Projects
Assist in financial modeling and sensitivity analysis for potential acquisitions.
Support accounting activities for acquired companies as required.
Develop deep expertise in Deltek Ajera, including building widgets and tools that provide actionable insights for project managers and the finance/executive teams.
Key Performance Indicators
Deliver high‑quality work that meets or exceeds expectations of the Director, Finance and the Executive Team.
Contribute to a positive learning environment that enhances financial project management across the firm.
Build strong working relationships across service areas and with external partners (financial, legal, insurance, etc.).
Minimum Requirements – Knowledge & Abilities
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with preference for articling experience at one of the big 5 accounting firms and controller or assistant controller experience within a professional services environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Self‑motivated, able to work independently, and comfortable managing competing priorities.
Calm and professional under pressure with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills with a curiosity for process improvement.
Well organized with strong time‑management skills.
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.
Education & Certification
Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, or related field.
Preferred Skills & Assets
Experience with accounting systems used in architecture or engineering firms (e.g., Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vision).
Prior experience in an architecture, engineering, or project‑based professional services firm.
