Within our
Underground Services Practice , we are seeking a
Geotechnical Project Engineer
role in our
Toronto, ON
office. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of experience working on relevant tunnel and trenchless projects, preferably including both design and construction roles, and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve.
Annual Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Geotechnical Project Engineer Essential Functions
Produce technical deliverables according to client specifications.
Prepare construction plans and specifications, structural/geotechnical calculations and design reports, and technical memoranda with appropriate guidance.
Communicate technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Produce engineering calculations including tunnel, geotechnical, and structural calculations (including numerical analysis) as required to support tunnel and trenchless design including excavation (shafts & tunnels – including connection details and complex structures) and adhere to all local and national codes for concrete, steel, and timber design.
Prepare technical reporting including memoranda, letters, and reports as well as geotechnical data reports (GDRs) and geotechnical baseline reports (GBRs).
Complete geotechnical engineering associated with tunnel and trenchless design, including development of design parameters from geotechnical reports and project documents.
Increase LJB’s visibility in the industry by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations, including any identified professional association activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study required (Civil, Structural, Geological/Geotechnical, or related field).
Master’s degree preferred.
Qualifications
3-6 years of relevant project experience in the planning, design, and construction of a variety of tunnel and trenchless projects.
Excellent problem solving, decision making, and teamwork skills.
Excellent technical writing skills and attention to detail.
A thorough knowledge of relevant technical codes, operations, processes, and trends.
Ability to work weekdays, nights, and weekends within the field.
Ability to work a standard weekday work schedule during business hours within the office.
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff.
