Job descriptionDo you have extensive transportation engineering experience in design and construction? Are you interested in interpreting engineering standard specifications and policies to produce effective contracts for the construction of Ontario's highway and bridges? If so, consider this opportunity to join the Highway Design Office of the Standards and Management Section.
Key responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and guidance in developing standards, procedures, and tools to support highway design and contract documentation.
Analyze complex engineering and design issues, ensuring compliance with specifications and consistency in application of standards.
Analyze design and construction documents and provide engineering expertise to ensure consistency in the development of specifications, drawings, and the ministry's special provisions.
Identify and drive opportunities for innovation and process improvement to advance digital modernization in highway engineering design and construction.
Location The successful candidate may work out of one of the following office locations:
1355 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston
Required qualifications
You are licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or you currently have accreditation as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory, and you will obtain a Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) license as a condition of accepting this position.
You possess a valid driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the province of Ontario.
Technical knowledge and skills
Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of transportation engineering design, construction, maintenance and operations, contracting methods, construction contract preparation, presentation and documentation, product and materials management.
Knowledge of the development and application of engineering standard specification, drawings, special provisions, and Contract Design, Estimating, and Documentation Manual (CDED).
Proficiency in computer operation for word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics to produce reports, correspondence, briefing notes and presentations.
Analytical and leadership/guiding skills
Proven analytical skills to interpret and apply directives, policies, specifications, drawing and special provisions to ensure consistency in contract preparation.
Proven analytical skills to review, identify and analyze the deficiency of standards, specifications, drawings and special provisions.
Leadership and guiding skills to lead the review and implementation of standards, specifications, drawings and special provisions.
Leadership and guiding skills to identify and evaluate opportunities for innovation and to provide engineering expertise on process and product development.
Communication and interpersonal skills
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to provide expert advice on engineering standards and specifications.
Excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, management, external stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary teams within the ministry and other jurisdictions.
