Production Supervisor

Provide effective supervision in an area of the coated abrasives manufacturing process in order to meet the requirements of other departments as well as customers so that delivery, quality, safety, service and cost objectives of the department are met.
Principal End Results
Plan and organize workflow/activities of department. Ensure adequate staffing of positions, communicate work assignments, and monitor operations. The incumbent will be actively involved in ensuring department personnel are held accountable for performance below expectations.
Establish safe work practices and procedures and correct all health and safety hazards or potential hazards so that accidents and/or injuries are eliminated. Ensure compliance to all Company policies is prioritized and maintained.
Implement ways to reduce generated waste and promote World Class Manufacturing/ Continuous Improvement principles in all department activities.
Maintain labour relations environment in the assigned department that is consistent with the collective agreement, Company policy and applicable legislation.
Complete all necessary reporting documentation (production, safety, quality) to necessary recipients.
Promote a culture change through leadership and communication to increase support for Plant improvement initiatives on the shop floor.
Safety
Accountable for safe maintenance activities. Promote, teach and improve safety systems and procedures for all employees.
Implement and ensure compliance to Company EH&S policies through proper training and accountability of personnel.
Leadership/ Employee Development
Manage and develop production employees to achieve established goals of safety, environmental performance, production volume, quality, service, and cost. Ensure that all employees know what is required and how the department rates relative to what is required ("know the goal and know the score").
Identify and execute development for the production team in both technical and soft skills, including ensuring all training is provided to maintain operation and safety certifications.
Take a leadership role in providing support for, and spreading the use of, World Class Manufacturing tools within the department.

Qualifications
Completion of University or technical degree/certification preferred or Completion of High School with relevant experience;
5-10 years in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years of direct supervisory experience in a unionized environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
Strong leadership skills including people development, conflict management and collaborative decision making skills.
Sound decision-making skills while managing stress and competing priorities.
Ability to set clear expectations, coach, develop, motivate, and hold staff accountable for performance.
Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision to department staff.
Must be flexible to adapt to changing and varying work requirements.
Demonstrated ability to manage with a “Safety First” attitude
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Highly motivated and self-directed.
Physical Demands and Working Environment Environment Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to dust, chemicals, temperature changes and noise.
Physical Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb on ladders; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to verbally communicate to exchange information.
