Make a difference Reporting to the Facilities Manager, Energy Initiatives, the Manager, Building Energy Systems coordinates with TCHC staff and external stakeholders to optimize energy use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while reducing total costs of building and portfolio ownership. They will be an internal resource for multiple teams on energy systems, technologies and software platforms for conservation, generation, and management. They will have team leadership roles with respect to building automation systems, utility metering, measurement and verification, recommissioning, and overseeing the combined heat and power plant fleet. They will also support other teams with capital project delivery, program initiation and sustainment, and sourcing of external funding.
What you’ll do Leadership
Provides vision and direction towards making the TCHC portfolio smarter and greener by incorporating the “triple bottom line” considerations of economic, environmental and social sustainability.
Develops business and work plans for the designated programs to support TCHC corporate plans, direction and vision.
Manages and provides guidance to staff in day‑to‑day operations in energy data tracking and analysis, system issue reporting and potential opportunities for energy savings.
Assists the Facilities Manager to develop a mentorship program in the designated discipline incorporating TCHC’s succession plan. Identifies the individual(s) for training and development in future leadership roles.
Recommends, develops and implements training programs and performance management plans.
Establishes relationships and partnerships with staff, service providers, stakeholders and clients to ensure effective communication.
Financial Accountability
Prepares yearly budget forecasts for assigned Energy Conservation Measures (Smart Buildings, Monitoring and Targeting (M&T and M&V) and BMS administration).
Manages program and project budgets and ensures that cost control criteria are met.
Sources external funding, such as grants, loans and incentives.
Planning and Delivery (Operations)
Prepares business cases and designs implementation plans for Energy Conservation Measures programs.
Progressively increase the number of buildings under continuous commissioning until the whole portfolio is wholly‑optimized and sustained.
Oversees Energy Conservation Measures program delivery, budget control, verification and close‑out.
Verifies and records energy and buildings systems for rectified issues.
Oversees and manages BMS system issue tracking requests from Energy System Analysts to ensure Client Care has responded and proper field personnel have been dispatched to the site for corrective action.
Conducts regular monitoring of the BMS system.
Reviews progress reports to identify critical paths.
Reviews and evaluates program commissioning and close‑out reports.
Performs a vendor performance review and evaluation after project completion.
Provide technical expertise and assistance on energy information management.
Maintain system user accounts, software licensing renewals.
Reporting and Performance Metrics
Contributes to the corporate development of metrics and measurement tools for performance.
Recommends, develops and implements the Key Performance Indicators as required to effectively monitor and improve operational delivery.
Assists in the compilation and updating of organizational energy management plan and sustainability.
Manages existing and new energy systems to optimize contracts to ensure ongoing value.
Contributes to senior management reports in regards to areas of responsibility.
What you’ll need
University degree or college diploma in engineering
Masters of Science in Energy Systems is an asset
Minimum of 6 years of experience in building energy management, HVAC systems, low‑carbon energy or related
Minimum of 8 years of experience in building energy management, HVAC systems, low‑carbon energy or related (preferred)
FMA, CMVP, CBCP, MT&R, LEED-EBOM or related training is an asset
P.Eng or EIT, CEM or CEM in training
Full G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
