Job DescriptionRole Description: Director of CarePlease note this is temporary position for 3 monthsMissionAs the Director of Care, you will contribute to Extendicare’s purpose of Helping People Live Better by leading a high-performing team dedicated to ensuring residents receive the care they need.The Director of Care (DOC) is a skilled and compassionate leader who oversees the delivery of exceptional, resident-centered care in a long-term care home. The DOC manages all aspects of care operations, ensuring best practices aligned with Extendicare standards, accreditation requirements, and provincial regulations.Leading and inspiring an engaged team is essential to achieving an excellent resident experience. Building strong, trust-based relationships with residents and families is also key to satisfaction and fulfilling our mission to provide care wherever people call home.Key OutcomesAdvocate for resident safety and continuous quality improvementAchieve high resident and family engagement through Experience Survey resultsMeet or exceed quality and clinical indicators through effective program executionFoster a positive culture and improve employee engagement year over yearEnsure full compliance with regulatory requirements, care plans, and organizational policiesKey ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team DevelopmentCultivate: Provide day-to-day leadership, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environmentTrain: Ensure staff receive required training and support ongoing professional developmentOperations & Financial ManagementFinancial Stewardship: Manage staffing in line with the Extendicare care model and legislated hours; support budgeting and variance analysisCompliance & Risk ManagementComply: Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, licensing standards, and employment legislationRisk Management: Identify and address resident care issues, mitigate risks, and respond promptly to critical incidentsResident & Family ExperienceCustomer Service: Respond to feedback with empathy and professionalismResident Care: Oversee assessments and individualized care planning based on resident needs and preferencesCollaboration & ImprovementCollaborate: Work closely with leadership, staff, residents, and families to optimize care deliveryImprove: Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on safety, wellness, and satisfactionStrategic Planning: Develop operational plans aligned with home-level clinical prioritiesCommunity & ValuesCommunity Partnership: Engage vendors and community health partners to enhance care and trainingValues Alignment: Promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values with integrity and ethical leadershipQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Nursing (Master’s preferred)Current, unrestricted RN registration with the applicable provincial bodyMinimum 5 years of nursing experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role (LTC or healthcare setting)Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and best practicesProven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teamsExperience driving quality improvement initiatives and achieving positive outcomesProficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and related technology#ExtendicareOntMultis1Time TypeFull timeCompensation Details$110,000.00 - $140,000.00At Extendicare, we’ve spent more than 50 years dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents in our long-term care homes across Canada.
