The Faculty ofHealth Sciences invites applications from qualified individuals for a Teaching Faculty position at the level of assistant teaching professor in medical laboratory science with a special interest in histopathology or histotechnology. This position is subject to budgetary approval and would start on January 1, 2026, or as soon as it is filled.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment, and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment. Primary duties include preparing, delivering and grading all course material, assignments, quizzes, and exams as assigned. The Assistant Teaching Professor will be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course. Duties may include the supervision of teaching assistants (s).

The successful candidate will be expected to have proficiency in instructing undergraduates in both the current curriculum in laboratory and lecture components of histopathology, including but not limited to expertise in microanatomy (using both light and digital microscopy) and all aspects of histotechnology, including gross fixation, tissue processing, microtomy, special staining techniques, with current knowledge of immunohistochemistry. Additional proficiency in other disciplines required for MLT certification [clinical microbiology, clinical biochemistry, clinical hematology, transfusion science], experience with simulation and current knowledge in molecular techniques will be considered an asset.

Applicants should be certified through the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and have a proven record of professional work experience in the medical laboratory field (equivalent certification may be considered). Applicants must be registered (or eligible for registration) with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). A graduate degree in a related field (, life science, education, health science) is required. Applicants who can demonstrate imminent completion of related graduate-level education will be considered.

The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 70% Teaching, 20% Service and 10% Other workload each year.

Required Education

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Science program (undergraduate degree, diploma, or advanced diploma level)
  • Certification through the CSMLS (or equivalent) as a Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Registration (or demonstrated eligibility to register) with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) as a practicing medical laboratory technologist. Registration must include all specialties (, Biochemistry, Hematology, Histology, Microbiology and Transfusion Science) The successful applicant will be required to be registered with the CMLTO upon assuming the position

Required Experience

  • A proven record of professional work experience in the medical laboratory field
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent relevant work experience within a clinical laboratory environment
  • Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is considered an asset

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
