Job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, College Experience, the Quality Assurance Facilitator stewards and organizes the phases and activities of North Island College’s quality assurance (QA) processes, including program review, program impact assessment, and curriculum and program development.

Working as a member of the QA team and in close partnership with Dean and/or Director Office of instructional areas, the Office of the Vice-President Academic, and Institutional Analysis and Planning, the Facilitator is the College’s primary day-to-day facilitator of QA conversations with faculty and departments. The role is hands-on: designing and delivering QA sessions in person and online, supporting curriculum work, and guiding departments through unfamiliar processes with care and clarity.

The successful candidate is skilled in preparation and presentation, active listening, and adapting their approach to the audience, while also offering recommendations and feedback that may be difficult to receive. The Facilitator advances NIC’s commitments to Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion through every aspect of QA practice. Position Competencies - Creates a Positive Climate and Culture;

Duties & Responsibilities 1.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE FACILITATION• Plan, design, and lead QA facilitation sessions — in person and online, with small to large groups — across program review, program impact assessment, and other QA processes identified by the Vice-President Academic’s Office.• Guide faculty and departments through each phase of program review, including scoping, evidence gathering, reflective practice, and the development of action plans.• Adapt the facilitation approach to the audience and context, including situations where participants are encountering QA processes for the first time.• Offer recommendations and feedback constructively, including in difficult or high-impact conversations.2.0 CURRICULUM AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT• Support the development and revision of courses and programs, grounded in sound educational theory and program design principles.• Facilitate curriculum work with program areas, including learning outcomes development, curriculum mapping, course development, curricular alignment, and data gathering.• Develop and provide resources to faculty to support program renewal, revision, and the design of new courses and programs.• Partner with the Quality Assurance Coordinator to ensure facilitation work aligns with broader QA frameworks and schedules.3.0 INDIGENIZATION, EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION• Embed the principles of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and the BC Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) in QA facilitation, materials, and conversations.• Work in respectful partnership with Indigenous Education and with First Nations communities served by NIC to ensure QA processes reflect Indigenous ways of knowing and learning.• Apply an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens to facilitation, learning outcomes review, and curriculum work.• Support faculty in identifying and addressing systemic barriers to learner success.4.0 PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION• Lead or co-lead the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of QA initiatives, activities, and projects.• Manage facilitation schedules and project timelines across multiple departments and concurrent reviews.• Track, document, and report on QA process activity, including providing summaries and recommendations to the Vice-President Academic’s Office and the AVP, College Experience.• Communicate and connect regularly with the AVP, College Experience and with the Office of the Vice-President Academic to keep priorities aligned with institutional needs.5.0 CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND OTHER DUTIES• Incorporate principles of continuous learning into facilitation practice and pursue relevant professional development.• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of QA tools, templates, and resources at NIC.• Promote a productive, healthy, and respectful workplace consistent with NIC’s values.• Perform other related duties as needed. Required Education & Experience • A completed Master’s degree in an area aligned with NIC’s instructional delivery.
• A minimum of five (5) full-time-equivalent years of successful post-secondary teaching experience in credentialed programming.
• A minimum of three (3) years of direct experience facilitating Quality Assurance Process Audit (QAPA) and related processes such as program review, program impact assessment, and program design and development. Note: teaching, project management, and QA experience may run concurrently.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating QA or curriculum-development sessions with faculty groups, including small and large groups in both in-person and online settings.
• Demonstrated project management experience, including leading collaborative initiatives from planning through evaluation. Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities • Strong working knowledge of the BC post-secondary system and familiarity with QA frameworks elsewhere in Canada, with the ability to apply that knowledge to NIC’s context and culture.• Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance and quality enhancement, and how QA connects to curriculum development, teaching practices, and institutional change.• Demonstrated facilitation skills, including session design, active listening, and the ability to adapt approach to varied audiences — in person and online, with small to large groups.• Demonstrated ability to facilitate curriculum and program-development activities, including learning outcomes development, curriculum mapping, course development, curricular alignment, and reflective practice.• Demonstrated commitment to Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the ability to embed these in QA facilitation.• Substantive experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and translating findings into recommendations that support evidence-informed decision-making.• Demonstrated leadership in change management and or review processes.• Excellent project management, organizational, and time-management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities.• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex, technical, or sensitive information clearly to varied audiences and to produce polished formal writing with strong attention to detail.• Demonstrated ability to manage challenging conversations and ambiguity, applying change-management principles to support faculty and departments through unfamiliar processes with professionalism.• Experience with survey tools and standard office productivity software; comfortable working with institutional data systems.• Ability to work flexibly, both independently and as part of a team, including occasional evening, weekend, and inter-campus travel as required.
