Position Summary The Regulatory Compliance Manager – UAS is responsible for ensuring ZenaTech’s drone operations comply with applicable aviation regulations in both the United States and Canada. You will lead efforts in securing exemptions and certifications (e.g., FAA Section 44807, Transport Canada SFOCs), managing legal filings, and providing internal training on drone-related regulatory frameworks. This is a critical role for maintaining airworthiness, legal operations, and cross-border expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and interpret aviation regulations in both the United States (FAA) and Canada (Transport Canada) relevant to UAS operations
Prepare and manage applications for FAA Section 44807 exemptions, COAs, and waivers; and Canadian SFOCs (Special Flight Operations Certificates)
Advise leadership and flight teams on regulatory risks and operational requirements under FAA Part 107-108, 91, 137 and Canada’s CARs Part IX
Develop and maintain UAS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), flight manuals, and safety protocols in compliance with U.S. and Canadian regulations
Serve as ZenaTech’s primary liaison with FAA and Transport Canada officials
Assist in responding to audits, inquiries, and investigations from aviation authorities
Train internal staff on airspace rules, pilot certification requirements, and recordkeeping policies
Maintain up-to-date documentation, including operating manuals, aircraft registration records, and compliance reports
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Aeronautics, Public Policy, Engineering, Law, or a related field
3–5 years of experience in UAS, aviation regulatory compliance, or a related legal/policy role
Deep working knowledge of:
FAA regulations (Part 107-108, 91, 137, 44807 exemption process)
Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Transport Canada SFOC framework
Experience submitting FAA or Transport Canada exemption applications or waivers
Strong writing skills for technical and regulatory documents
FAA Part 107-108 Remote Pilot Certificate or Canadian Basic/Advanced RPAS certificate
Legally eligible to work in the U.S. or Canada
Preferred Skills
Experience with heavy-lift, agricultural, or autonomous drone systems
Familiarity with ASTM, SORA, or SMS risk assessment frameworks
Cross-border aviation or legal consulting experience
Bilingual (English/French) is a plus, but not required
