Controller (CPA Designated) – Edmonton, AB
Staffmax is currently hiring for one of our clients in Edmonton, AB for an experienced and strategic CPA Designated Controller to join their leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong accounting and finance professional with proven leadership, financial management, and analytical experience.
Pay- 32-35/hr
Position Summary
The Controller will play a key leadership role within the organization and will be responsible for overseeing all accounting, finance, treasury, tax, payroll, risk management, and administrative functions. This individual will support executive decision-making by providing accurate financial reporting, business analysis, and operational insight while ensuring compliance and safeguarding company assets.
The successful candidate will also lead and mentor the accounting team, improve financial processes, and contribute to long-term organizational growth and strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Compliance
• Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
• Ensure accuracy of balance sheets, income statements, accruals, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Lead annual audits and support external compliance requirements
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
Treasury & Cash Management
• Monitor cash flow requirements and maintain healthy cash positions
• Execute EFTs, wire payments, and oversee treasury functions
• Manage tax remittances, filings, and installment payments
• Review foreign exchange rates and coordinate forward exchange contracts when required
Payroll & Benefits
• Oversee payroll processing and administration on a semi-monthly basis
• Support benefits administration in collaboration with HR
• Ensure RRSP and statutory remittances are completed accurately and on time
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, variance reports, and business analyses
• Develop scorecards and key company performance metrics
• Provide strategic financial insight to leadership and stakeholders
Risk Management & Systems
• Manage company insurance programs and risk mitigation initiatives
• Act as administrator for multiple business systems and software platforms
• Continuously improve and streamline accounting and reporting processes
Leadership & Collaboration
• Lead, mentor, and support the accounting team
• Build strong relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders
• Participate in strategic planning and organizational initiatives
• Promote accountability, professional growth, and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
• CPA designation with active membership required
• Degree in Accounting or related field required
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience required
• Manufacturing or distribution industry experience considered an asset
• SAP experience considered an asset
Skills & Knowledge
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, treasury, payroll, and compliance
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Pivot Tables and Excel analytics
• Experience with systems such as SAP, Power BI, Crystal Reports, or similar tools is an asset
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Working Environment
• Based in Edmonton, AB
• Occasional travel to customer, vendor, or corporate locations may be required
• Primarily office-based role with extended periods of desk and computer work
