We are currently seeking a Shotcrete Pump Operator to join out operations based in Bedford, NS.
Job Summary:
A Shotcrete Pump Operator is responsible for pumping concrete to structural surfaces in construction environments such as tunnels, retaining walls, shoring systems, foundations, and repair projects for application. The role requires strong technical control of specialized shotcrete equipment, an understanding of concrete behavior during application, and the ability to work safely in challenging outdoor conditions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use and control shotcrete pumps, hoses, and nozzles to supply and apply concrete smoothly and evenly to designated surfaces, ensuring correct thickness, adhesion, and finish.
- Adjust pump and nozzle pressure, air and water flow, and spray angles to maintain high-quality placement, ensuring proper consolidation and structural integrity.
- Verify that surfaces are clean, reinforced, and ready for shotcrete application, addressing loose material or improper framing before beginning work.
- Work with foremen, finishers, nozzlemen, and laborers to ensure efficient workflow and proper placement according to project specifications.
- Assess how weather or temperature affects shotcrete performance and adjust application techniques as needed to maintain quality.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of equipment, follow all safety protocols, and maintain a clean, hazard-free work area.
- Perform daily cleaning, checks, and light maintenance on pumps, hoses, and nozzles to ensure consistent performance.
- Complete necessary safety, equipment, and quality-control documentation as required by the project or company
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience in shotcrete or concrete pumping.
- ACI Concrete Pump Operator Safety Certification. (considered an asset)
- Strong ability to operate shotcrete pumps, nozzles, and compressed-air equipment.
- Understanding of different shotcrete mixes and how material properties affect pumpability and final finish.
- Familiarity with both wet- and dry-mix shotcrete processes and their required control techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail in concrete pumping applications.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather, uneven terrain, and in physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to identify site risks, manage equipment safely, and follow quality-control procedures specific to shotcrete.
- Effective communication with other crew members and site supervisors to coordinate tasks.
- Ability to interpret shoring drawings, project plans, and job specifications.
- Quick decision-making and adaptability in dynamic job-site situations.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with air-brake endorsement
