Director, Corporate Tax to join their team. Reporting directly to the CFO, this is Shaw's primary in-house tax role — a senior, hands-on position for a technically strong corporate tax professional who thrives in a complex, multi-entity environment. The Director will serve as the company's internal tax authority, leading compliance, planning, and audit management across Shaw's divisions and affiliated entities, with a particular focus on real estate and corporate structures.
Key Responsibilities include: - Serve as The Shaw Group's in-house corporate tax specialist, with deep focus on real estate development, construction, manufacturing, partnerships, and related entities
- Provide expert tax guidance to senior management and operating divisions on complex tax matters, planning opportunities, and compliance requirements
- Lead strategic tax planning initiatives across Shaw divisions, related entities, and consolidated structures
- Advise on tax structuring for acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, partnerships, joint ventures, and intercompany transactions
- Oversee corporate income tax compliance across multiple entities, including preparation, review, and filing of T2 corporate tax returns
- Manage tax instalments, elections, assessments, reassessments, and all related filings
- Oversee HST self-assessments, monthly filings, and related CRA reviews and audits in collaboration with divisional accounting teams
- Serve as the primary company contact for CRA audits, reviews, information requests, and objections
- Act as the main tax liaison with external auditors on provisions, disclosures, and supporting documentation
- Develop and maintain tax processes, controls, compliance calendars, and governance protocols across the organization
- Build strong relationships across internal departments, external advisors, CRA, and industry peer tax specialists
- Support divisional GMs and Controllers with ad hoc financial analytics on an occasional basis
As the ideal candidate, you will bring: - A CPA designation and completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program
- 5–10+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, including significant real estate industry exposure
- Proven experience preparing and reviewing T2 corporate tax returns and managing CRA audits and correspondence
- Experience with tax planning across multi-entity structures, including tax loss planning, debt loops, and corporate reorganizations
- Familiarity with partnerships, joint ventures, intercompany transactions, and consolidation
- Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax, compliance requirements, and relevant legislation
- Experience working with external auditors and advisors on tax-related matters
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax issues for non-tax stakeholders
- High degree of professionalism, judgment, and discretion
- Experience in a lead in-house tax role or as a senior tax advisor supporting a complex corporate group is strongly preferred
