The Department of Chemistry is seeking Contract Academic Staff to teach the following lab(s) during the 2026-2027 academic year. The instructor(s) will be responsible for in-person laboratory delivery including the preparation of all consumables, samples, solutions, and equipment as part of laboratory preparation/set-up and clean-up, laboratory safety, marking or supervision of laboratory markers, and coordination with the course instructor regarding the overall laboratory assessment. Qualified candidates must possess strong teaching, communication and organizational skills, and demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Fall Term: Classes run from September 9 to December 11, 2026, with an exam period following.

Winter Term: Classes run from January 5 to April 9, 2027, with an exam period following.

18:261 Organic Chemistry I (2 credit hours per section)
Fall term Z01 1:40 pm – 5:40 pm Wednesday
Z10 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm Wednesday

Laboratory experiments include recrystallization, distillation, Separation of acidic, basic, and neutral compounds using liquid-liquid extraction, thin layer chromatography, and stereochemistry.

18:271 Organic Chemistry II (2 credit hours per section)
Winter term Z01 1:40 pm – 5:40 pm Wednesday
Z10 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm Wednesday

Laboratory experiments include substitution reactions, Diels-Alder reaction, Grignard reaction, reduction of carbonyl compounds using hydrides and esterification reactions.

18:363 Introductory Biochemistry (2 credit hours per section)
Fall term Z01 1:40 pm – 5:40 pm Thursday
Z02 1:40 pm – 5:40 pm Friday

Laboratory experiments include basic plasmid handling such as transformation, mini-prep plasmid DNA extraction, restriction enzyme digestion, and DNA electrophoresis; basic bioinformatic protein analysis such as BLASTp, alignments, and protein structure visualization and analysis; protein lysate preparation, column/pull-down affinity-purification, SDS-PAGE and western blot analysis.

18:373 Intermediary Metabolism & Human Metabolic Disorders (2 credit hours per section)
Winter term Z01 1:40 pm – 5:40 pm Thursday
Z02 1:40 pm – 5:40 pm Friday

Laboratory experiments include basic electron transport chain monitoring of photosynthesis and/or TCA/oxidative phosphorylation, instruction and supervision on experimental design, and instruction and supervision of a major written literature review and oral presentations.

Qualifications: A Master’s degree in the subject area is preferred; A BSc degree in the subject area is required. Previous teaching experience within a laboratory setting will be considered an asset. Salary: $8,132.00 per 3 credit hour course
