Job Description

The Business Intelligence Analyst is a key member of the development team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining BI solutions across departments. This role supports the organization in implementing BI solutions by collaborating with Business Analysts and end users. The BI Analyst works closely with IT staff and other team members to ensure the BI environment is operational and provides valuable insights to business users.

Level of Responsibility

This role involves a medium to high level of responsibility to lead, manage, develop, and support BI solutions for different internal departments. While there is flexibility and autonomy in designing BI solutions, there is also an expectation for high-quality product delivery and strong customer satisfaction. The role also includes mentoring junior BI developers and super business users to promote best practices and design methodologies.

Key Tasks

• Build and manage data warehouse systems using methodologies best suited to each business area.
• Develop tabular and multidimensional models that align with warehouse standards.
• Create high-performance data marts and Analysis Services reporting models.
• Develop visual reports, dashboards, and KPI scorecards using Power BI Desktop and SSRS.
• Design and maintain ETL programs (Extract, Transform, and Load) for business intelligence.
• Implement row-level security and understand application security layer models in Power BI.
• Build DAX and MDX queries in Power BI Desktop for advanced calculations.
• Adapt to developing, publishing, and scheduling Power BI reports to meet business needs.
• Understand business requirements and develop data models using available resources.
• Manage projects, develop plans, and monitor performance.
• Design BI methodologies and produce technical project documentation.
• Integrate Power BI reports into other applications using embedded analytics like Power BI Service (SAAS) or API automation.
• Design and develop Power Automate apps and flows to integrate with ETL processes.
• Develop and manage scripts (Python, PowerShell, VBS, etc.) for advanced data extraction, cleaning, and analytics.
• Troubleshoot data issues in both front-end BI environments and backend data structures.
• Optimize query and report run times, perform SQL tuning, and monitor or improve BI server performance.

Qualifications

Skills / Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Computer Science
• 3 years of experience designing data models and reports using the Microsoft BI stack (Power BI, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server).
• Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with query languages such as SQL, DAX, and MDX.
• Strong understanding of other programming environments, including Python, C#, PowerShell, FTP, SFTP, and VB.
• Ability to document technical aspects of BI projects, such as ERD diagrams, process flows, and data mapping.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Azure platforms, including Azure Functions, Power Automate, DevOps, Data Factory, and Fabric.
• Experience in developing and consuming APIs.
• Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to act with urgency when needed.
• Capability to quickly understand, design, and analyze algorithms and data structures.
• Basic understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence programming, an asset.
• BI developer and SQL certifications, an asset.
• Experience with prototyping, designing, and requirements analysis.
• Familiarity with secondary tools such as Visual Studio, Report Builder, Crystal Report, Power Automate Desktop, and Microsoft Copilot.
