Job descriptionLoopstra Nixon is seeking a junior associate to join our Municipal & Insurance Litigation group at our Head Office. This is an excellent opportunity for a recently called lawyer who is eager to develop expertise in municipal and insurance defence litigation, as well as exposure to coverage and commercial litigation matters. You will work alongside experienced partners and colleagues on a broad range of matters involving liability, negligence, municipal immunity, and other complex litigation issues. The role offers meaningful exposure to all stages of the litigation process, with opportunities for hands-on involvement in file management and litigation strategy across a variety of matters. Our established group provides strong mentorship and training to help you build a solid foundation in your practice. Responsibilities: - Draft litigation documents including statements of defence, pleadings, motion materials, affidavits, mediation briefs, and correspondence - Conduct legal research on liability, negligence, municipal immunity, etc. - Attend examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trials, and court appearances - Management of files from intake through to resolutions on less complex matters - Reviewing productions, medical records, accident reports, maintenance logs, and expert reports Qualifications: - LL.B or JD - Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario - 0-2 years of litigation experience, preferably with exposure to insurance or municipal litigation - Strong drafting and organizational skills - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Ability to independently research and analyze applicable law and matters - Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities Compensation & Benefits: Loopstra Nixon LLP offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package, including: - Salary range: $130,000 – $150,000 CAD, commensurate with experience - Bonus opportunity tied to billing targets - Comprehensive health and dental benefits - Health Care Spending Account - Wellness and employee engagement programs Additional Information: - This job posting is for a newly created role. - We do not use artificial intelligence (AI) to screen or assess candidates in our recruitment process.
