Role Summary: The Electrical Foreman is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and overseeing workflow within the assigned project crew while managing the day-to-day operations of the job site. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Foreman performs the duties of a licensed 309A Electrician, including the layout, installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

309A Electrician Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations.

  • Splice, join, and connect wires to fixtures and components to form circuits.

  • Pull wires through conduits and openings in walls and floors.

  • Install brackets, hangers, lighting fixtures, switches, relays, circuit breaker panels, and other electrical control and distribution equipment.

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand and power tools.

  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and required repairs while ensuring code compliance.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems and components using testing equipment and hand tools.

  • Connect electrical power to communication equipment, signalling devices, heating and cooling systems, transformers, and other components.

  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment by following company safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.

  • Collaborate with team members to achieve project and site objectives while maintaining a professional and positive attitude.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and organize work for the assigned crew, including materials, tools, and required documentation.

  • Develop and maintain crew schedules and assign work to ensure daily service and production goals are met.

  • Monitor crew productivity and operational performance.

  • Coordinate and manage resources required for project completion.

  • Resolve operational issues and act as the primary escalation point for the crew.

  • Maintain reference manuals, procedures, and operational directives.

  • Implement new processes and procedures as directed by the Senior Project Manager.

  • Support payroll-related activities, including timesheet completion, review, and submission.

  • Communicate project updates, ongoing requirements, and operational concerns to the team.

  • Train, mentor, and guide crew members to achieve required performance standards.

Safety Responsibilities:

Provide leadership that promotes and maintains a strong safety culture. The Foreman is accountable for the safety of all crew members under their supervision, including:

  • Understanding and complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

  • Communicating and enforcing company safety policies and procedures.

  • Conducting and facilitating mandatory toolbox talks and safety meetings.

  • Ensuring completion of safety inspections and hazard assessments.

  • Participating in incident and accident investigations.

  • Ensuring vehicle and equipment inspections are completed.

  • Promoting safe work practices and ensuring proper use of PPE and fall protection equipment.

Leadership and Supervision:

  • Coordinate and direct crew activities.

  • Clearly communicate work expectations and project requirements.

  • Assign tasks and monitor work quality and productivity.

  • Address and resolve workplace issues and conflicts.

  • Maintain work standards and reinforce behavioural expectations.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

  • Participate in day-to-day disciplinary matters when required.

Planning and Scheduling:

  • Follow project schedules and production targets.

  • Translate project requirements into prioritized daily and weekly work plans.

  • Work with crew members to resolve operational challenges.

  • Adjust schedules and priorities as required to meet project deadlines and productivity expectations.

Employee Relations:

  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.

  • Support teamwork and positive working relationships among crew members.

  • Address employee concerns and performance issues professionally and promptly.

Quality Control:

  • Conduct site assessments before work begins to ensure readiness and identify concerns.

  • Oversee execution of work to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.

  • Inspect and measure completed work to verify accuracy and workmanship.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain site foreman logs and site reports.

  • Prepare daily production and progress reports.

  • Complete MTO quality reports and required project documentation.

  • Track employee time and attendance records.

  • Complete worker violation and incident reports.

  • Provide recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, discipline, and terminations.

Knowledge and Skills:

The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Company safety programs and procedures.

  • Occupational Health and Safety legislation and environmental practices.

  • WSIB and insurance requirements.

  • Employment standards and company policies.

  • Blueprint and construction drawing interpretation.

Work Environment:

  • Commercial and industrial construction sites.

  • Operational facilities and customer locations.

  • Warehouse and field environments.

  • Working at heights and in confined or hazardous areas.

  • Exposure to high voltage environments and use of PPE, fall protection, and power tools.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Pushing and pulling electrical cables and conductors.

  • Operating hand and power tools including drills, saws, pipe benders, and other equipment.

  • Operating elevated work platforms such as scissor lifts.

  • Working on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Standing, climbing, bending, and working for extended periods.

  • Working in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.

  • Shift work and rotational schedules as required.

Qualifications:

  • Valid 309A Electrician Certification.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a qualified electrician.

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience managing crews.

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract.

  • Reliable personal vehicle for transportation to job sites.

  • Ownership of required tools and personal protective equipment.

  • Ability and willingness to work at heights.

  • Valid certifications in:

    • Working at Heights

    • Fall Prevention

    • Scissor Lift / Elevated Work Platform

    • Health and Safety Training

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with clients and internal teams.
