Location: Vaughan, ON Type of employment: Full-time Monday to Friday, ONSITE What to expect…. SUMMARY: The Health and Safety (H&S) Specialist will leverage their skills and knowledge to maintain a culture of health and safety within all ATS Healthcare facilities. Responsibilities will include developing, implementing and maintaining policies, conducting inspections and providing safety training to employees. As a safety leader, the H&S specialist will stay informed on industry trends and legislative changes and communicate information to relevant stakeholders. The H&S Specialist is also responsible to maintain a safe, discrimination free, positive workplace environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Develop, implement, and maintain health & safety policies, programs, and safe‑work procedures to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with regulatory requirements. - Lead organizational risk assessments, identifying hazards and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and maintained. - Conduct and oversee safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews to measure performance and identify opportunities for improvement. - Manage incident reporting, investigations, and root‑cause analysis, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked. Complete all related documentation, including workers’ compensation requirements. - Provide expert guidance to executives, managers, and employees on occupational health, ergonomics, regulatory compliance, and safe‑work practices. - Design and deliver safety training programs; collaborate with the training department to develop health‑ and safety‑focused training content, ensuring employee comprehension and adherence to policies. - Monitor and interpret health & safety legislation to ensure organizational practices remain compliant with evolving regulatory requirements. - Liaise with medical practitioners and Workers’ Compensation Boards (WCB/WSIB) in support of ATS Healthcare’s Early and Safe Return to Work program. Work closely with department leaders to coordinate modified duties when required. - Lead emergency preparedness and business continuity planning, including drills and coordination with external agencies. - Oversee contractor safety management, ensuring third‑party compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. - Develop, analyze, and report on health & safety trends, injury rates, and related performance metrics for senior leadership and key stakeholders. - Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to health and safety, and communicate relevant updates to the organization. - Coordinate with external regulatory bodies, including the Labour Program and Workers’ Compensation Boards, to ensure compliance with legislative requirements. - Develop and maintain MSDS/SDS documentation, the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS), HSEp initiatives, JHA, SWP, SOPs and other relevant compliance materials. - Promote and foster a culture of health and safety awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement. - Perform other related duties as required. What you need…. - Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field. - 3+ years of experience working in a health and safety focused position. - Strong knowledge of occupational health & safety legislation, including CLC Part II, and recognized industry best practices. - CRSP® designation an asset - Experience working with provincial worker’s compensation boards and WSIB. - Strong communication & organizational skills - Knowledge of recognized Health and Safety best practices - Knowledge of Transportation and Logistics activities - Exceptional Keyboard and Computer literacy skills - Strong communication and organizational abilities. - Experience in TDG and GMP‑regulated environments. - Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast‑paced setting.
