HIL Development Engineer – Automotive
Location: Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Onsite – 100%)
Duration: 12 Months
We are seeking an experienced HIL Development Engineer to support advanced automotive R&D initiatives at the Automotive Research & Development Center (ARDC) in Windsor, Canada.
In this role, you will be responsible for the development and integration of Driveline Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) subsystems, supporting vehicle controller systems including ABS, ESC, EPS, and ECU integration within driving simulators.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain HIL plant models and hardware representing driveline subsystems and vehicle controllers
• Integrate HIL subsystems into advanced driving simulators
• Create SOPs, tools, and methodologies to improve HIL and simulator integration processes
• Perform HIL IO mapping, wiring harness implementation, troubleshooting, and ECU flashing
• Support simulation system debugging and data analysis for engineering reviews
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product development and engineering teams
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering
• 5+ years of experience with HIL/MIL/SIL projects
• Hands-on experience with dSPACE hardware/software (ControlDesk)
• Strong experience with:
- CAN/CAN FD, SPI, LIN
- ECU Flashing
- UDS, XCP, CANalyzer, CANoe
- MATLAB/Simulink plant model development
- • Experience troubleshooting HIL simulation systems
- • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to the USA for meetings
Preferred Skills:
• Automotive industry experience with Powertrain, Electrification, or Driveline systems
• Knowledge of Brake & Steering controllers (ABS, ESP, ESC, ECU)
• Understanding of ECU interactions and vehicle subsystem integration
• Strong project planning and organizational skills
