Production / Operations Supervisor Day Shift Arthur, ON Slaughter – Primary Meat Processing The Company: Our client is a fast-growing primary meat processing business, shaping the future in Food and protein processing and distribution in Canada. Their vision is to be a preferred national supplier of quality pork products from gate-to-plate: producing exceptional quality by blending their rich farming heritage with modern practices, ensuring every product is fresh and responsibly farmed. The Opportunity: Excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to lead a team at a food manufacturing facility with a rapidly growing company who are opening a new state-of-the-art facility; offering ample opportunity for growth, leadership, and career development. Lead the daily operations of Pork Processing, including the receiving of live hogs, killing, evisceration, cutting, deboning and packaging processes. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality production environment, meeting all production goals and supporting continuous improvement, safety, quality initiatives and compliance with all FSQA regulations. You’ll have the opportunity to: shape and guide production teams, drive performance and quality, and solve real-time challenges. Job Duties & Responsibilities: - Oversee all shift production operations, directing salaried and hourly production employees to ensure smooth and efficient processes; ensuring teams stay motivated, aligned, and focused on operational goals. - Foster strong employee relations through training, counseling, and support team member development and morale. - Partner internally and cross-functionally with other leaders to drive continuous improvement initiatives, reduce operational wastes, and assist in building operational standards. - Collect and monitor data that allows for quantitative decision-making in support of reducing operational costs and efficiency gains. - Take the lead in implementing and maintaining safety and ergonomic programs and practices to create an injury-free workplace. - Ensure employees are trained in safety protocols, observe and enforce safety rules and practices, as well as identify and address hazards. - Maintain high product quality and safety standards, ensuring all processes align with HACCP and SOP protocols. - Address product failures, foreign material issues, and ensure staff are well-versed in CCPs and HACCP plans to meet compliance requirements. - Ensure that all operating procedures are followed and adhered to. - In the absence of key personnel, you will step in or delegate responsibilities to maintain seamless operations and meet all required goals. - Lead corrective actions to improve shortcomings in support of the organization’s overall success. - Implement plant-specific mission to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with corporate goals. - Direct and oversee the sanitation and maintenance processes - Drive employee engagement, training, and development to achieve manufacturing, quality, safety, and productivity goals. - Drive continuous improvement and implement lean thinking focusing on key operation metrics and lean tools (OEE, DDS, 5S, QFD, TPM) - Communicate results and action plans to all employees and foreman and temporarily fill the role of Production / Operations Manager if needed. - Collaborate with production planning, materials management, and finance to optimize scheduled attainment, customer service, and capital budget execution. - Handle Human Resources to address employee issues, initiate cost-saving measures, and ensure all operations meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Ideal Qualifications & Competencies: - Bachelor’s degree in Food science, Management, or a closely related field (preferred) - 5-7 years’ leadership experience in food production/manufacturing (required) - Experience in a large, high-speed food manufacturing environment that operates 24/7. The scope of work and size of the facility are significant. - Computer application skills, basic mathematical, statistical, and financial skills, and TPM experience. - We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in Canada without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future. - Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, BRC, and USDA regulations (required) - Superior problem-solving skills - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities - Proven successful track record in organizational and planning abilities - Strong analytical and process management skills
