Our work focuses on vegetation, ecosystem, and wildlife components of Environmental Assessment Certificate (EAC) applications, supporting projects from baseline through permitting and post-approval compliance. We also provide strong leadership and project coordination skills, working with multi-disciplinary teams to submit large applications and manage application reviews. We prioritize efficient and high-quality deliverables that meet both client and regulatory needs. Role Description We are seeking an Intermediate Ecologist with strong vegetation ecology experience to support a range of environmental assessment and permitting projects. Wildlife related work is also an asset. This role is well-suited to someone who is comfortable working independently, has solid field and technical skills, and is looking to take on meaningful responsibility within a small, collaborative team environment. There is room for growing areas that interest you and collaborating on new and innovative ways of conducting ecological and project coordination work. Based out of BC, ideally in the lower mainland, you will work in your own home office and will join our growing team of vegetation and wildlife biologists and project coordinators. Work will include ecological field data collection, ecosystem mapping, writing technical reports, and leading or supporting project coordination tasks. This position will start immediately with an anticipated 75% of travel for fieldwork and 25% office work over the spring to fall months and 100% office work for the remainder. Negotiation on part-time or full-time, employee or contractor, can be discussed to suit your goals and lifestyle. A 12-month contract may be given depending on workload and/or skillset, and would have the potential for extension or conversion to full-time. Key Responsibilities - Conducting and leading vegetation and ecosystem field surveys, including rare plant identification - Complete Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) and ecosystem classification, field surveys and desktop mapping - Support environmental assessment deliverables (baseline and effects assessments), fieldwork and report writing - Manage and analyze field data Qualifications - Minimum B.Sc. or equivalent in biology, in botany, ecology, or environmental sciences, or an equivalent post-secondary diploma, or equivalent demonstrated experience. - Minimum 5+ years of experience in vegetation ecology fieldwork - Demonstrated experience with Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) in BC - Strong plant identification skills, including rare plants and invasive plants - Experience contributing to technical reports and environmental assessments - Ability to work independently in both field and office settings - Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or eligible for registration is an asset - Strong attention to detail. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - A strong safety culture. - A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract. - Experience or interest in supporting other biophysical study areas such wildlife, soils, and/or fisheries field assessments.
