Job descriptionKey Responsibilities: Yard Operations & Leadership - Supervise and lead daily yard operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. - Coordinate crews, equipment operators, and yard employees to maintain productivity and workflow. - Monitor daily operations and quickly address operational, equipment, or safety issues as they arise. - Support and enforce safety policies, procedures, and operational standards. - Ensure proper use, handling, and care of heavy equipment, machinery, and yard assets. - Work closely with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime and keep operations running smoothly. - Assist with scheduling equipment usage, operator assignments, and workflow planning. Equipment & Operational Support - Develop a strong understanding of equipment, machinery, and yard processes. - Conduct routine yard walkthroughs and inspections to identify operational concerns or safety risks. - Coordinate with maintenance personnel regarding repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment readiness. - Support process improvements that increase efficiency, organization, and productivity within the yard. - Track operational performance and provide updates to management on productivity, staffing, and equipment issues. Team Leadership & Communication - Lead by example with a hands-on and proactive approach to operations. - Provide guidance, direction, and support to yard employees and operators. - Hold team accountable while maintaining a positive and respectful work environment. - Assist with onboarding and training new employees on operational procedures and safety expectations. - Maintain strong communication between operations, dispatch, maintenance, and management teams. Qualifications: - Post-secondary education in operations, manufacturing, mechanical, or related fields is an asset. - 3+ years of experience in a supervisor, lead hand, or operations leadership role within manufacturing, construction, recycling, transportation, or heavy equipment environments. - Strong understanding of heavy equipment, machinery, and yard operations. - Hands-on leadership style with the ability to work directly alongside crews when required. - Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced operational environment. - Comfortable managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing operational needs. - Excellent communication and team leadership skills. - Mechanical aptitude or experience working around industrial equipment is considered a strong asset. - Experience with safety procedures and operational compliance standards preferred.
