Job descriptionThe Opportunity Adescor is seeking a Mechanical Designer that will be responsible for carrying out a variety of engineering duties including designing, researching, prototyping, and testing new products/designs. They will collaborate across departments on various design projects, using in-depth knowledge of the latest design trends and engineering software. Work Location: Strathroy, Ontario (on-site) Reports to: Mechanical Engineering Manager What You’ll Own - Design and develop machines and products to a high standard of quality and with high attention to detail - Contribute to product development and continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing existing designs over time - Design in accordance with department standards and within schedule, cost, and quality expectations - Support product lifecycle management, including revisions, upgrades, and configuration improvements - Utilize engineering methodology to ensure designs are scalable, maintainable, and manufacturable - Prepare and validate calculations that inform and justify design decisions - Provide input and assistance in managing product and engineering changes - Provide technical and engineering expertise for process improvements - Efficiently prepare original part, fabrication, assembly, layout, schematic, detail, and proposal drawings using CAD software - Develop and maintain standardized design elements, libraries, and documentation - Design and execute tests to validate design performance expectations - Collaborate with and support other departments, including the Quoting, Procurement, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Service teams - Effectively work with suppliers to determine and source appropriate components What Success Looks Like - Delivers high-quality, reliable designs that meet customer requirements, timelines, and cost expectations - Takes ownership of products from concept through to implementation on the plant floor - Applies strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and sound engineering practices in all work - Collaborates effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams to move products forward - Proactively identifies and solves problems, improving designs and processes along the way Who You Are - A seasoned and technically inclined mechanical designer with an advanced understanding of mechanical systems and design principles - Confident working independently, with the ability to take ownership of design scope and deliver with minimal oversight - Understands the importance of product consistency, lifecycle thinking, and long-term performance - A proactive problem solver who anticipates challenges and drives solutions forward - Experienced in collaborating across teams and aligning stakeholders to successfully deliver projects Qualifications - Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field - 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a focus on custom machinery, automation, or industrial equipment - Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and AutoCAD, with the ability to independently develop complex assemblies, detailed drawings, and complete design packages - Demonstrated experience leading or owning design scope from concept through to production, including real-world implementation in a manufacturing environment - Proven track record of delivering high-quality, reliable designs that meet performance requirements, timelines, and cost targets - Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, and welding and consistent application of design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles - Advanced capability in engineering analysis and validation, including performing, interpreting, and justifying critical design calculations (FEA experience preferred) - Experience managing multiple concurrent design priorities with a high degree of autonomy, while maintaining organization and meeting deadlines - Hands-on experience integrating pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical/control systems into mechanical designs - Demonstrated ability to identify and implement design improvements, including standardization, cost reduction, and performance optimization - Comfortable working cross-functionally with manufacturing, procurement, suppliers, and assembly teams to ensure practical and executable designs - Experience working in a similar manufacturing or industrial environment is considered an asset Preferred Experience - Background in industrial equipment, automation, or pipe processing systems - Familiarity with PLC/HMI environments and integrated control systems Why This Role This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, custom-engineered systems with a strong emphasis on product design and see your designs come to life in real-world production environments. The hiring range for this position is $88,000 to $100,000. Salary will be determined based on experience, skills, and overall qualifications.
