Job description

Who we are At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation.

Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society.

Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick.

Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse.

Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments.

Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access.

Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities. At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need Reporting to the Director, Career Education, we are seeking a Career Coach to support a new initiative that empowers students through a comprehensive, developmental Life Design curriculum, one that builds professional identity from day one.

In this role, you will serve as a principal co-designer—advancing the modernization of our Career Education Centre through a shared transformation from traditional career services to evidence-informed, developmentally sequenced programming that integrates academic learning, experiential education, and professional identity exploration.

You will work with learners across undergraduate and graduate programs to navigate academic, professional, and personal pathways, guided by intellectual curiosity, purposeful reflection, and increasing self-authorship.

Operating across multimodal and multi-jurisdictional environments, you will deliver research-informed, equity-centred, and pedagogically aligned coaching and programming.

You will apply Life Design principles, career development theory, and insights into the future of work to help students and alumni connect education to opportunity and cultivate meaningful, socially responsive, and ethically grounded futures.

You will contribute to Yorkville’s national model for Career and Life Design by co-creating and refining a framework that advances identity development, professional readiness, and long-term career agency across the student lifecycle.

This is an existing full-time role, currently following a hybrid model working 4-days a week on-site at our New Westminster, BC location and 1-day remotely.

What’s in it for you Purpose.

You will contribute to a mission-driven, research-aligned transformation that strengthens learner confidence, belonging, and identity development while shaping a national model for career education.

Your work will build inclusive pathways that create professional growth opportunities grounded in personal fulfillment, connection, and long-term resilience.

Through events, mentorship, programs, and thought leadership, you will design and facilitate high-impact learning environments that enhance the Yorkville experience as students navigate their academic journey.

Knowledge.

This is an opportunity to strengthen your professional reputation and influence as you help build a national program advancing holistic student development, applied research, and institutional innovation.

You will deepen your expertise in curriculum design, experiential learning strategy, partnership development, and scholarly communication within a collaborative environment that values innovation and inclusivity. Growth.

You will have the support and resources to advance your career in meaningful, lasting ways.

We provide opportunities for professional development, exposure to best practices across industries, and the chance to contribute to an institution that is continually evolving and innovating. How you will make an impact Coaching and career development.

You will provide one-on-one and group coaching that helps learners explore their strengths, values, interests, and evolving career pathways.

You will support students in translating academic competencies into professional narratives, setting goals, and identifying opportunities.

Your coaching will equip learners with tools that build resilience, informed decision-making, and lifelong career adaptability.

Life Design and future-self mindset.

Drawing on Life Design and design thinking methods, you will help students envision and test multiple career and life scenarios.

You will integrate reflective practices and storytelling to support identity development and alignment with purpose.

Through micro-experiments, informational interviews, and experiential learning, you will guide iterative exploration and discovery.

Curricular and co-curricular integration.

  • You will work in true partnership with Teaching & Learning, Faculty, Academic Advisors, and Student Services—co-designing and co-delivering learning experiences that integrate Life Design and career development principles into courses, workshops, and student success initiatives. You will align programme-level activities with career-readiness milestones and labour-market expectations, delivering scalable workshops and micro-learning sessions that meet the needs of diverse learner groups.

Employer and alumni engagement.

Partnering with Employer Engagement and Partnership Specialists, you will incorporate employer insights into coaching, preparation, and programming.

You will integrate alumni perspectives and mentorship opportunities into student development, helping learners strengthen employability skills, build self-advocacy, and transition confidently into professional environments.

Equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

You will design coaching approaches that honour diverse identities, experiences, and aspirations.

You will promote equitable access to career education across campuses, jurisdictions, and delivery modes, contributing to inclusive ecosystems that strengthen belonging and close opportunity gaps.

Assessment and continuous improvement.

You will track coaching engagement, feedback, and outcomes to inform continuous improvement and support evidence-based practice.

Data insights will guide programme refinement and enhance impact.

You will remain current with research in Life Design, coaching, career development, and the future of work to advance overall programme quality.

What you bring The education and experience.

You have a Master’s degree in Education, Organizational Leadership, Career Development, or a related field.

Professional certification in coaching or career development, such as ICF, CCCD, or Life Design certification, is preferred.

You bring progressive experience in career coaching, student success, leadership development, or similar roles, ideally within higher education, and have designed and facilitated workshops, curricula, and digital learning resources for diverse learner populations.

The knowledge.

You have a strong grounding in Life Design, design thinking, and career development theory.

You stay current on labour market trends, employability skills, and future-of-work insights, and you apply this knowledge to evidence-based coaching and programme design.

The interpersonal skills.

You are an exceptional communicator with the ability to support diverse, distributed, and international learners.

You build trusting, collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, employers, and alumni, and you work effectively both independently and as part of a national team.

The values.

You are committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity, with a focus on widening access to opportunity and strengthening learner belonging.

You bring an innovative, learner-centred mindset rooted in curiosity, reflection, and continuous improvement, along with a genuine interest in education and career development.

The project management.

You have successfully managed concurrent coaching caseloads, workshops, and institutional projects in a fast-paced environment.

You are highly organized with strong attention to detail and able to coordinate tasks, track outcomes, and ensure execution aligns with strategy.

You are proficient in MS Office Suite and virtual presentation tools.

The flexibility.

You are willing and able to work across online and in-person modalities, and travel occasionally for institutional commitments.
