Job description
Directeur(trice), Production Lieu : Montréal, Québec ou Sydney, Nouvelle-Écosse (mode hybride; déplacements fréquents au Canada et à l’international requis) Aperçu du poste Une organisation manufacturière en croissance, axée sur l’innovation, est à la recherche d’un(e) leader principal(e) pour superviser la mise à l’échelle et la commercialisation de bioprocédés complexes. Ce rôle est responsable de la transition de la production, du stade pilote à la fabrication commerciale, tout en assurant la robustesse des procédés, la qualité et la préparation opérationnelle. La personne retenue possédera une expertise approfondie en fabrication par fermentation, une bonne connaissance des procédés en aval, ainsi qu’une capacité démontrée à diriger des équipes multidisciplinaires dans un contexte de croissance rapide et de complexité opérationnelle. Le poste implique une collaboration étroite avec les équipes d’ingénierie, de développement de produits, de qualité et de chaîne d’approvisionnement afin de soutenir une production fiable et évolutive. Principales responsabilités - Diriger la mise à l’échelle et le transfert technologique des bioprocédés, du stade pilote à la fabrication commerciale, incluant l’optimisation des opérations en amont et en aval - Superviser les activités de production basées sur la fermentation à des volumes de réacteurs croissants, en soutenant la transition vers des environnements de fabrication à grande échelle - Assurer le leadership des opérations de fabrication commerciale afin de garantir la constance, l’efficacité et la qualité des produits - Harmoniser les décisions d’ingénierie et de fabrication avec les objectifs commerciaux, opérationnels et économiques - Constituer, diriger et encadrer une équipe performante d’ingénieurs en bioprocédés et de spécialistes en fermentation - Collaborer de façon transversale avec les équipes de recherche, de développement de produits, de qualité, de chaîne d’approvisionnement et commerciales afin de soutenir la croissance de l’organisation - Gérer les partenaires manufacturiers externes et les relations avec les fabricants sous contrat, au besoin - Soutenir les activités de procédés en aval, incluant la récupération et la purification des produits, ainsi que la conformité aux normes de qualité - Collaborer avec les équipes de chaîne d’approvisionnement et d’approvisionnement afin d’assurer l’accès fiable aux matières premières et la livraison ponctuelle des produits Qualifications - Baccalauréat, maîtrise ou doctorat en génie des procédés, génie chimique, biochimie ou dans un domaine connexe - Plus de 10 ans d’expérience en bioproduction ou en génie des procédés, avec un succès démontré dans la mise à l’échelle de procédés basés sur la fermentation - Solide expérience en fermentation submergée (liquide) dans des environnements de fabrication pilotes et commerciaux - Expérience de travail avec des opérations manufacturières internes ainsi qu’avec des organisations de fabrication sous contrat Leadership et compétences professionnelles - Pensée stratégique et systémique, combinée à une forte orientation opérationnelle - Leader collaboratif(trice) capable de communiquer efficacement avec des équipes techniques et non techniques - À l’aise dans des environnements manufacturiers en forte croissance et en constante évolution - Excellentes compétences en résolution de problèmes et jugement solide dans des contextes complexes et axés sur les données - Accessible, transparent(e) et capable de favoriser une culture d’équipe positive axée sur la performance Director, Manufacturing Location: Montréal, Québec or Sydney, Nova Scotia (Hybrid; frequent travel within Canada and internationally required) Position Overview A growing, innovation-driven manufacturing organization is seeking a senior leader to oversee the scale-up and commercialization of complex bioprocesses. This role is responsible for transitioning production from pilot-scale operations to full commercial manufacturing while ensuring robust process performance, quality, and operational readiness. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in fermentation-based manufacturing, a working knowledge of downstream processing, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through rapid growth and operational complexity. This position works closely with engineering, product development, quality, and supply chain stakeholders to support reliable, scalable production. Key Responsibilities - Lead the scale-up and technology transfer of bioprocesses from pilot-scale to commercial manufacturing, including optimization of upstream and downstream operations - Oversee fermentation-based production at increasing reactor volumes, supporting transitions to large-scale manufacturing environments - Provide leadership for commercial manufacturing operations, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and high-quality output - Align engineering and manufacturing decisions with commercial, operational, and economic objectives - Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of bioprocess engineers and fermentation specialists - Partner cross-functionally with research, product development, quality, supply chain, and commercial teams to support organizational growth - Manage external manufacturing partners and contract manufacturing relationships as required - Support downstream processing activities, including product recovery, purification, and compliance with quality standards - Collaborate with supply chain and procurement functions to ensure reliable access to raw materials and timely product delivery Qualification - Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related discipline - 10+ years of experience in biomanufacturing or process engineering, with demonstrated success scaling fermentation-based processes - Strong background in submerged (liquid) fermentation within pilot and commercial manufacturing environments - Experience working across both internal manufacturing operations and external contract manufacturing organizations Leadership & Professional Attributes - Strategic, systems-oriented thinker with a strong operational mindset - Collaborative leader who communicates clearly across technical and non-technical teams - Comfortable operating in high-growth, evolving manufacturing environments - Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment in complex, data-driven settings - Approachable, transparent, and capable of fostering a positive, performance-focused team culture
