Job descriptionAbout Variablegrid Enabling the Electric Leap. Variablegrid builds hardware-enabled software systems that optimize power use in homes and commercial buildings. We specialize in intelligent energy management with real-time control of flexible electrical loads. With strong early traction, we're now expanding our commercial team to scale deployments and deepen the feedback loop between the field and our product. The Opportunity We're looking for a Commercial Integration Lead to own the full deployment lifecycle of our commercial energy management systems. This role sits at the intersection of field engineering, technical support, and product development, making it foundational to how we learn, iterate, and improve our technology in real-world environments. You'll be the technical owner of every commercial installation, from pre-deployment scoping and system configuration through onboarding and post-deployment analysis. You'll serve as the primary technical voice to our Pro Clients, fielding their inquiries, guiding them through onboarding, and keeping their systems running at peak performance. Beyond day-to-day support, you'll systematically capture technical findings from the field and channel them directly into the product and engineering roadmap. This is a deeply technical role that requires methodical problem-solving, strong systems intuition, and a genuine drive to improve how complex energy systems integrate at scale. What You'll Do: Own the customer journey for our Pro Clients - Respond to customer technical inquiries: Act as the primary technical point of contact for commercial clients. Field incoming technical questions, diagnose integration issues at the hardware/software boundary, document findings systematically, and drive resolution through structured testing, iteration, and cross-functional collaboration with the engineering team. - Lead customer onboarding: Guide new Pro Clients through the full onboarding journey, from initial system scoping and configuration to commissioning, training, and handoff to steady-state operation. Build onboarding playbooks that make each deployment faster, smoother, and more predictable than the last. - Bridge field learnings and product development: Serve as a structured feedback loop between commercial deployments and the R&D and engineering teams. Capture edge cases, failure modes, and environmental variables encountered in the field, and translate them into actionable inputs for the product roadmap, directly contributing to the technological evolution of the platform. - Provide technically rigorous client support: Deliver tier 1 and 2 technical support for commercial customers, owning issue triage, root cause documentation, and escalation. Build deployment runbooks and internal knowledge bases that improve team-wide capability and reduce resolution time. - Evaluate and improve integration methodologies: Propose and test improvements to integration approaches, communication protocols, and configuration tooling as the product evolves. What We're Looking For - Technically grounded systems thinker: You understand how hardware-enabled software systems behave in real-world conditions, and how to diagnose when they don't. Experience with IoT, building automation, energy management, or connected hardware is a strong asset. - Methodical troubleshooter: You approach problems systematically, document your process, and know how to isolate variables to find root cause. You're comfortable working through technical unknowns without a clear playbook. - Customer-facing technical communicator: You can translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences without losing precision. Calm under pressure and skilled at building trust with commercial clients through competence, not just rapport. - Field deployment experience: Prior experience commissioning, configuring, or supporting hardware-software systems in commercial or industrial environments. Comfortable working both on-site and remotely, adapting to the demands of each deployment. - Startup-ready ownership: You're comfortable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments. You don't wait to be told what needs fixing. You find it, document it, and drive it to resolution. - Why Join Us? - Work at the frontier of electrification: Every deployment you lead directly advances how buildings manage energy, replacing fossil fuel systems with intelligent electrical infrastructure. - Own a function that shapes the product: This isn't a support role. It's a technical engineering role with direct influence on how the platform evolves. Your field findings feed the roadmap. - Rare cross-functional leverage: You'll have a view across both the engineering internals and real-world system performance, giving you influence and visibility that few roles in a company this size offer. - Mission-driven team: We're accelerating the electrification of society. If you want your work to matter in the shift to a zero-carbon grid, you'll feel at home here.
