Job description
Adecco is currently hiring a Manager, Bridges and Structures for a full-time opportunity. If you are an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in bridge design, maintenance, and structural assessment, this role offers a leadership opportunity in a safety-focused rail environment. The Manager, Bridges and Structures - BC oversees Capital and Maintenance programming for the BC Territory's Bridges and Structures group to ensure safe and reliable rail operations. This includes managing bridge and culvert maintenance programs, reviewing inspection reports, assessing timber bridge capacities, and supporting maintenance drawing development. The role works closely with Bridge Design, Assessment, and Quality teams at both technical and senior leadership levels.

Responsibilities
Plan Management

  • Develop and maintain a dynamic short- and long-term (5-year) Capital and Operating Maintenance Program
  • Prioritize upcoming and future years' repairs, retrofits, strengthening and replacement of bridges and culverts
  • Manage the development of maintenance drawings in support of Capital and Operating Programs
  • Review and approve inspection reports within the Bridge Condition System
  • Perform audits of bridge inspections for accuracy and compliance
  • Perform capacity rating of timber bridges and maintain rating records
  • Assess and approve Heavy Axle Loads over timber bridge spans with operating guidelines
  • Inspect bridges for capital and maintenance planning
Collaboration and Support
  • Provide direction to consultants supporting bridge maintenance and replacement
  • Review engineering reports and consultant designs
  • Support cost-effective bridge design solutions with minimal operational disruption
  • Provide engineering support during construction and maintenance activities
  • Participate in safety audits
  • Act as a structural resource across departments
  • Support Transport Canada information requests
Working Conditions
  • Work performed indoors, outdoors, and in remote locations in varying weather conditions
  • Variable shifts including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • 24/7 on-call availability for critical incidents
  • High-pressure environment with tight deadlines
  • Frequent travel (25%-40%), including overnight stays
Qualifications
  • Must be eligible to work and reside within Canada
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in bridge design, construction, inspection, or maintenance
  • Experience in cost estimation and contract interpretation is an asset
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering is an asset
  • P.Eng designation
  • Fall Protection Certification
  • Ability to identify structural defects in steel, concrete, and timber
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Strong project and time management skills
Technical Skills / Knowledge
  • Knowledge of railroad structures and bridge behaviour
  • Understanding of railway bridge maintenance
  • Microsoft Office and PDF proficiency
  • Railway bridge design knowledge is an asset
