We're seeking an HR Coordinator to support our operations in Alberta. The HR Coordinator's primary focus is on recruiting and onboarding of trades employees. This role also contributes to a broad range of HR functions, including benefits administration, training coordination, HR reporting, supporting the delivery of various employee programs, and following-up on compliance‑related requirements.
In this role, you help create a smooth and positive employee experience by managing high‑volume seasonal onboarding, responding to day‑to‑day HR inquiries in a timely manner, maintaining accurate HR data, and by supporting various HR initiatives across the region.
The successful candidate for this position is efficient, focused, organized, and willing to work within a fast-paced environment. The position will provide HR services to the region by performing the below:
What you'll do:
Talent Acquisition
- Own full‑cycle recruitment for designated roles, with focus on trades (including intake, developing job descriptions, managing postings, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and coordinating reference checks) ensuring a great candidate experience.
- Manage the end‑to‑end onboarding process for new hires, including pre-access drug and alcohol testing, orientations, training enrolment, documentation; leads the coordination of high‑volume onboarding of hires/rehires during peak seasonal hiring periods.
- Plan, coordinate, and attend career fairs as needed, applying innovative and creative sourcing techniques to attract and engage diverse talent.
- Coordinate benefits and pension enrolment for new employees and respond to related inquiries.
Business Partnering & Employee Relations
- Support front‑line supervisors with coaching on employee relations matters and escalate to HR Partner more complex issues appropriately.
- Provide timely and professional responses to various inquiries coming from employees, payroll, vendors etc.
Programs, Engagement & Culture
- Administer the company's rewards and recognition program for the region.
- Assist with annual HR processes such as performance reviews, compliance training, administration of the annual Employee Engagement Survey program.
- Coordinate all-staff meetings and regional events (in-person or virtual).
- Participate in HR meetings, projects, and regional initiatives.
HR Operations
- Facilitate the offboarding process, ensuring timely completion of required steps.
- Prepare HR-related documentation such as payroll forms, employment letters, staff announcements and other internal communications.
- Own your admin: HRIS transactions and data integrity; letters, file management, onboarding/offboarding tasks, benefits enrollments/changes/business correspondence.
- Conduct regular audits of HR and benefits data to ensure accuracy.
- Generate HR reports and support the HR Partner with metrics and analytics.
- Perform other HR-related duties as assigned.
What you'll bring:
- Minimum 3 years of HR experience, ideally in construction or exposure to trades recruitment, with supplementary experience in other HR functions (e.g., performance management / progressive discipline) considered an asset.
- Post‑secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline
- Knowledge of HR policies, Alberta employment legislation, and HR best practices
- Familiarity with coordinating pre‑access drug and alcohol testing
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and resolve problems effectively
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, multi‑deadline, team‑oriented environment
- Professional and confident in interactions with employees at all levels
- Demonstrates integrity, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Tech‑savvy and quick to learn new systems; experience with HRIS, LMS, and applicant tracking systems
- Willingness to travel occasionally to various sites across Alberta
Work conditions & other information:
- This position may be based in either Calgary or Edmonton. Travel between offices required periodically.
- Please note that our Edmonton office will be relocating to Acheson, AB before the end of the year, and our Calgary office is scheduled to relocate to Janet, AB by Spring 2027.
