JOB SUMMARY: The FVPA provides advocacy, bridging to support services and awareness building. This role supports the family services program and the GBV capacity-building project, focusing on preventing and responding to family violence, especially in cases of domestic violence and child abuse.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist and coordinate services for the non-offending parent/caregiver.
- Coordinate and provide DBNC advocacy services with non-offending parents/caregivers. Provide systems advocacy among DBNC Programs, Settlement, Youth and Community Health to include consultation, reviews, and referrals.
- Maintain an active referral network with professionals, businesses, and social service agencies to assist victims.
- Assist with outreach and engagement events on an as-needed basis
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE): - Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in Social Service Work, Social Work, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, Community Development, Gender Studies, Criminology, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated interest in gender-based violence prevention, family violence, mental health, community outreach, advocacy, and/or social justice work.
- Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, culturally responsive, and client-centred approaches.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills
- Ability to work respectfully and empathetically with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Comfortable facilitating presentations, workshops, outreach activities, or community engagement initiatives.
- Proficiency in English and an additional language is considered a strong asset, demonstrating effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Knowledge of community resources and social services within Peel Region is considered an asset.
- Able to easily adapt to change and multitask.
- Able to work both independently and as a team member.
- Strong professional boundaries and self-care routines.
