About the College and First-Year Engineering Program
In 2021 the College of Engineering undertook a complete redesign of its first-year program, incorporating research-informed best practices in course design, teaching and learning methods, approaches to student assessment, and experiential learning opportunities. This innovative program has positioned the College at the forefront of engineering education in Canada, making the University of Saskatchewan a destination of choice for excellent students from across Canada, and beyond.
The new curriculum has a modular structure, featuring a high degree of alignment in the sequencing and presentation of materials, both across courses and over the academic year. In addition, a consistent assessment strategy has been implemented within courses based on the competency-based model, allowing students some opportunity to revisit and retest material that they have yet to master.
