Overview The Project Safety Advisor manages all safety aspects on the job site. This role is intended to ensure that all safety requirements of the client and Nexar are adhered to and that the Safety Program is implemented in the field from start to finish. Key Responsibilities Ensure the effective implementation of the Nexar Safety Management System Assess project compliance with the applicable safety codes, procedures, relevant documentation, and commitments Ensure the maintenance of safety training records and safety documents Develop, implement and oversee safety initiatives to ensure newly identified risks, hazards, or behaviours are managed effectively Ensure adequate correction measures are implemented in cases of non-compliance Assist the Project Manager, Construction Manager and Superintendents in ensuring compliance at the work location Develop Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) on a project basis prior to kickoff Lead incident investigation from start to completion, including auditing corrective actions, are in place Perform safety training for crew personnel on safe work practices, changes in regulations or standards and their safety responsibilities as required Review and revise safety procedures, work instructions, risk assessments and JHA / JSA’s as required Ensure regular site inspections are completed by leading and coaching a team of safety professionals Manage and administer all project reporting requirements internally and externally Review and provide suggestions for equipment and PPE to be used on-site Complete comprehensive safety reports of on-site findings, including correction plans as required Contribute to the success of the project’s overall safety performance Support operations and functional management in the achievement of corporate initiatives Conduct weekly safety meetings with the foreman and project leadership team Lead the safety meetings for the project workforce Participate in the onboarding and pre-phase of each crew and their respective leaders by mentoring them on the requirements and commitments made to our stakeholders Qualifications NCSO, OHS, CRSP or other industry-recognized training; and / or a combination of education and relevant experience Leadership for Safety Excellence Able to conduct training in Nexar Trench Box Training and Excavation Assessment Experience Minimum 2-5 years experience working in an oil & gas or industrial construction safety management advisory role. Skills and Knowledge Ability to work in a growing, dynamic, and changing environment. Knowledge of the pipeline construction industry. Understanding of case management. Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Regulations, and Codes (Manitoba) and how they pertain to project execution. Ability to read and understand relevant documentation pertaining to each project's successful and safe completion (legislation and other industry-specific standards / practices). Proven understanding of the effective management of incidents and near hits. Familiarity with relevant construction codes, standards, and practices. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills towards generating solutions and sound decisions. Ability to work with limited supervision. Optimistic / collaborative approach and attitude towards work with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Excellent communication skills : written and verbal skills, listening skills, organization abilities, proven attention to detail, and ability to develop good working relationships with inside and outside organizations.
