Reporting to the Supervisor, System Control Centre, the Senior System Operator will support all System Control Centre clients in the upkeep and smooth delivery of the SCC Work Coordinating System. The Senior System Operator will provide on the job leadership, support, and oversight to the System Control Centre, System Operators in their duties. This role will also support the SCC staff and leadership through looking for and being involved in the improvements to SCC service delivery and work management. This may include, but is not limited to policies, procedures, systems and tools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Development, implementation and continual enhancement of the SCC work coordination system, system conditions tracking, devices out of service process and planned hold-offs service.
- Lead the team of System Operators to ensure the proper application of the job scheduling function, grid system conditions, planned hold-offs, and devices out of Service process for Elexicon's electric distribution system.
- Schedule, calendarize and provide administrative support to ensure SCC clients can monitor the lifecycle of their work request from submitted to delivered.
- Track and manage work scheduling status and processes in collaboration with the System Operators.
- Provide updates to SCC clients on the status of their work requests and which steps in the process are still outstanding in order to complete work.
- Advise the SCC clients and the SCC department including System Operators, Supervisor or Manager on system conditions and the risk to the grid that may materialize and seek approval for a particular service request to be permitted or declined.
- Keep departmental management apprised of any scheduling or system issues.
- Support the department with investigations or reviews of system conditions and/or executed jobs that impacted
- Ensure that safe work practices are followed in accordance with IHSA rules, the Utility Work Protection Code and Elexicon’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure accurate records of operations, interruptions, and load transfers, maintaining UWPC records and supporting documents.
- Ensure compliance and proficiency with Independent Market Operator (IESO) Market rules/Market Manuals and regulatory requirements.
- Remain proficient with all Operating/Connection Agreements.
- Communicate with leadership and other stake holders with power outage Information, times, outage notifications.
- Communicate, prepare, and submit reports to various agencies such as MOL, ESA, MOE.
- Train Operators-in-Training in the work of the SCC including safe work methods and practices, leadership, and good housekeeping.
- Leads by example in the execution of operator practices
- Ensuring the Collective Agreement is followed as related to basic work conditions.
- Commenting as requested on the performance of departmental processes, procedures and providing recommendations for gap closure.
- Ensuring detailed, proper operating records, schematics, system device loading records, and outage records are completed, checked, and issued as required.
- Dealing in a professional and accommodating manner with enquiries from customers, internal clients and other parties in relation to power system issues and supporting other System Operators in this regard, in accordance with Elexicon’s policies and procedures.
- Other duties as required may be considered part of these responsibilities.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of applicable regulatory documents including but not limited to the Utility Work Protection Code & the Electrical Utility Safety Rules.
- Extensive PC experience and knowledge of SCADA, GIS and OMS packages.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent organizational, communication and verbal skills with a strong commitment to customer service
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and perform all assigned duties with minimal supervision.
- Displays professional ethics and possesses strong leadership skills and a sense of mission with a high priority for safety and results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing or ambiguous work conditions; able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Holds self and others accountable to achieve objectives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate from an accredited institute in Electrical/Electronics Technology or a qualified Technologist, OACETT certification preferred.
- Successful completion of the MEARIE Operator in Training Program and/or Certified EDA System Operator.
- Minimum 7 years’ work experience in an electrical utility environment.
Compensation Package: Hourly rate of $60.47, as per our collective agreement with Power Worker's Union (PWU) + Benefits + OMERS Pension Plan
The above range reflects the reasonable estimate for the position at the time of posting. Within the range, hiring compensation will be determined based on relevant qualifications, experience, skillset, education/ training, and other organizational needs.
