Job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of IT Infrastructure Service and Support, the Systems Architect role is to ensure the secure, stable and efficient operation of the in-house and cloud-based information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by designing, monitoring, supporting, and optimizing in-house and cloud based applications, end to end management of physical / virtual server and hyperconverged systems. The Systems Architect will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize IT system uptime. Duties Include but are not limited to:

  • Architecture & Lifecycle: design standards, capacity planning, hardware and software lifecycle/refresh planning, patch/vulnerability management.
  • System management: Responsible for monitoring and maintaining infrastructure; ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Security: working proactively with the IT security team on patching and hardening, MFA/conditional access, incident response support, logging/monitoring, system evaluation and implementations.
  • Resilience: backup/restore testing, DR exercises, RPO/RTO targets, business continuity alignment.
  • End User Support: Provides guidance and escalation for Level 1 & 2 teams for more complex issues.
  • Documentation: Development and maintenance of run-books, system diagrams and documentation including as-built documentation.
  • Operational Support: Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Change management: Documentation and presentation of change requests and participation on the IT change advisory board.
  • Vendor Management: Support tickets, escalations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a two (2) year College Diploma in System / Network Engineering and Security Analyst program or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of related work experience in a medium-to-large organization.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with server virtualization (VMware / Nutanix).
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with SAN storage or Hyperconverged solutions.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with Microsoft Server OS, Active Directory and supporting services, i.e. DFS & GPO.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with Microsoft Cloud solutions including M365, Azure, Entra ID, SharePoint online, MS Teams.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with managing current versions of MS Exchange (both on-prem and Exchange Online / M365).
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with end-point security, MDM, Multifactor authentication, email filtering, and other security systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Microsoft Intune design and management.
  • Knowledge and experience with backup solutions and disaster recovery planning.
  • Knowledge and experience with data centre management.
  • Solid understanding of network standards such as OSI Model, IEEE standards and Network Topologies.
  • Expert level knowledge of TCP/IP and services such as HTTP, DNS, DHCP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, SNMP etc.
  • Expert level knowledge of load balancing technologies for servers, network security appliances, etc.
  • Expert level knowledge of cyber security principles and best practices.
  • Proficient level knowledge of network monitoring and alerting systems.
  • A Driver's Licence in good standing through the course of employment.
