Job Description
This position is supported by the Canadian Summer Job grant and will conclude on August 14, 2026. The successful candidate must be a Canadian citizen between the ages of 18–30.
Our Instructor Therapists are responsible for intensive behavioural intervention, providing services for children and youth with autism. In this role, you work with children and youth in home, clinic, centre and classroom‑based settings, both one‑on‑one and in small groups.
The position requires the successful candidate to be available on evenings (3 pm – 8 pm) and on weekends. You will be required to work out of other Kinark sites from time to time based on operational needs. You may also be assigned to work in different programmes and services within the Autism division, and your primary work location may be reassigned within a 50‑kilometre radius based on operational needs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Client Services
Kinark Autism Services delivers services using a combination of one‑to‑one and small group instruction. Our team provides individualized services based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). As an Instructor Therapist, you will administer skill acquisition programmes, teach appropriate behaviours, reduce challenging behaviour, teach communication and social skills, play skills and life skills. You will regularly liaise with parents to provide progress updates and support parent coaching sessions, create teaching materials to support programming, and collect and monitor data.
Data Collection and Review
Conduct behaviour or curriculum assessments. Monitor and track progress by keeping detailed daily records and information on the child’s challenging behaviour, skill acquisition and other aspects of planned interventions.
Administrative Duties
Maintain the clinical binder for each client, including preparing datasheets, daily graphing and adjusting programming based on the set revision and mastery criterion. Participate in agency initiatives to further enhance supports and services.
Qualifications
- Post‑secondary education in Autism and Behaviour Science, Behavioural Psychology, or a related field.
- College diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker or Developmental Service Worker may be considered.
- Candidates currently enrolled in a diploma or degree program may be considered.
- 1 year’s experience delivering ABA‑based programming is an asset.
- Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) is an asset.
- Strong organisational, interpersonal, time‑management and communication skills.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Travel in the York and/or Simcoe area required. Must have a valid Ontario driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain business insurance with at least one million dollar liability.
- Knowledge of cultural diversity and proficiency in other languages considered assets.
- First Aid/CPR training is an asset.
Additional Notes
