Job description
Join a Challenger

Being a traditional bank just isn’t our thing, so we challenge ourselves to get creative in providing innovative banking solutions for Canadians.

How do we get there? With a talented team of inquisitive and agile challengers that break through the status quo. So, if you’re passionate about redefining the future of banking—while having fun—this could be your next big opportunity.

Our company continues to grow, and today we serve more than 800,000 customers across Canada through Equitable Bank, Canada’s Challenger Bank™, and have been around for more than 50 years. Equitable Bank’s wholly‑owned subsidiary, Concentra Bank, supports credit unions across Canada that serve more than six million members. Together we have over $142 billion in combined assets under management and administration, with a clear mandate to drive change in Canadian banking to enrich people’s lives. Our customers have named our EQ Bank digital platform (eqbank.ca) one of the top banks in Canada on the Forbes World’s Best Banks list since 2021.

As a Staff Cloud Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical expert supporting EQ Bank’s Microsoft cloud platforms with a focus on Power Platform (30%), Azure Cloud Engineering (30%), AKS and DevOps Enablement (20%), and Platform Process Improvement (20%). Reporting to the Director, Cloud Operations, you will design, implement, and improve reusable platform capabilities that empower both professional and citizen developers across the bank.

You will work hands‑on with GCP and Azure services, PaaS workloads, Kubernetes, and DevOps toolchains, while also contributing to Power Platform governance and lifecycle enablement. As a technical leader, you’ll collaborate with engineering, security, operations, and business stakeholders to drive platform maturity, automation, scalability, and compliance across our cloud environments.

The Core Responsibilities! Cloud Platform Engineering & Operations (30%)

Design, build, and optimize Azure platform components including App Services, Azure Functions, Key Vaults, and API Management.

Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Bicep for scalable and secure resource provisioning.

Implement observability patterns across infrastructure and workloads using tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.

Collaborate with architecture, security, and operations teams to ensure platforms meet SLAs, DR/RTO requirements, and compliance expectations.

Power Platform Enablement (30%)

Develop and maintain automation for Power Platform lifecycle management, including ALM pipelines and environment provisioning.

Implement data loss prevention (DLP) policies, app usage reporting, and licensing optimization for Power Platform components.

Collaborate with Governance and Security teams to establish safe, compliant citizen development frameworks.

Provide technical guidance to Power Platform users and support solution acceleration across the organization.

AKS Platform & DevOps Practices (20%)

Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps to deploy containerized workloads into AKS.

Implement secure AKS architectures, including ingress, autoscaling, monitoring, and security controls.

Enable GitOps patterns and promote modern deployment practices in collaboration with product engineering teams.

Contribute to DevSecOps initiatives and embed security, performance, and resiliency into deployment pipelines.

Platform Process & Maturity Improvements (20%)

Lead initiatives to improve cloud platform operational processes, including incident management, platform health, and self‑service enablement.

Define platform engineering standards and reusable blueprints to reduce manual effort and increase team efficiency.

Contribute to FinOps and cost optimisation practices through resource tagging, usage reporting, and automation.

Promote knowledge sharing and engineering excellence across teams through documentation, workshops, and reusable patterns.

Let's Talk About You!

Post‑Secondary education, preferably in the areas of Technology.

8+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering roles in enterprise environments.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure, PaaS services, Power Platform, and AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service).

Knowledge of GCP is considered an asset.

Strong experience with Terraform / Bicep, CI/CD pipelines, and Git‑based workflows.

Strong background in cloud solution architecture and development of low‑level design documentation.

Practical understanding of DevOps and SRE practices including automation, observability, and incident response.

Experience supporting Power Platform governance (DLP, ALM, monitoring) and citizen development enablement.

Skilled in designing secure and scalable AKS workloads and containerised platform services.

Excellent collaboration, documentation, and cross‑functional communication skills.

Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and YAML/JSON‑based configurations.

What we offer [For full‑time permanent roles]

Competitive discretionary bonus

Market‑leading RRSP match program

Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in‑office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank’s additional office space located at 2200‑25 Ontario Street, Toronto, ON.

Equitable Bank is deeply committed to inclusion. Our organization is stronger and our employees thrive when we honour and celebrate everyone’s diverse experiences and perspectives. In tandem with that commitment, we support and encourage our staff to grow not just in their career path, but personally as well.

We commit to providing a barrier‑free recruitment process and work environment for all applicants. Please let us know of any accommodations needed so that you can bring your best self to the application process and beyond.
