Job Description Are you an Electrical Engineer or Technologist looking for an opportunity in the marine industry? Join Fleetway Inc.’s engineering team and be a part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and the Halifax Class Design Agent contracts. Through these contracts Fleetway’s engineers and technologists provide a full range of technical data management and engineering support services to the Royal Canadian Navy. Be part of a team that produces complex designs to support new structures and systems, that will ensure the Royal Canadian Navy is “ready to help, ready to lead and ready to fight”.
If we sound like a team you’d like to be a part of, and make a difference with, then we’d love to hear from you! We are looking for a qualified Jr. Electrical Engineering/Technology student for our Ottawa, ON office.
Responsibilities During your internship, you can expect to be part of an outstanding group of Naval Architects, Mechanical, and Electrical engineers and technologists.
We tailor your work experience to your skills and abilities. If you choose to work on one specific project and hone your skills in a particular area, we can make that happen. If you prefer broader project exposure across a variety of client projects, we can make that happen too.
Supported by your peers, you have exposure to a wide variety of Government, Military, Commercial, Oil and Gas and Industrial based project work.
You can expect as a co-op student/intern to gain valuable work experience and broad project exposure by:
Assist with technical studies, single‑line diagrams, schematics, specifications, and 3D models
Support preparation of Technical Reports, ECIDs, ECIPs, and engineering change proposals
Perform engineering analysis, including electrical calculations (load, voltage drop, short‑circuit), cable sizing, and basic finite element analysis
Assist with equipment selection and systems integration activities
Develop 3D models of ship equipment and compartment arrangements
Prepare cable run sheets and cable pull sheets
Perform quality control reviews of drawings and technical deliverables
Support naval electrical system design under senior engineer guidance
Qualifications
Enrolment in Electrical Engineer Bachelor's Degree or Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma.
Familiar with AutoCAD
Interest in Rhino or other 3D modeling software
Proficient in MS Office Suite
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
