Who We Are For more than three decades RainCity Housing has put government funds and generous donor dollars to good use to create, implement, and manage housing and support programs that sustain relationships, strengthen communities and make change for people experiencing homelessness and mental health, trauma and substance use issues, throughout BC's lower mainland. By designing programs based on research, assessment, evaluation, and implementation of best practices, RainCity Housing is leading the way in developing solutions to end homelessness.

Our Board The RainCity Housing Society Board is a policy governance board (i.e. follows the Carver model), as opposed to an operational board.
The role of the RainCity Housing’s Board of Directors is one of oversight and governance. Board officers are assigned responsibility for certain areas, but the Board carries out its responsibilities with one voice. We ensure that our activities and decisions are in alignment with the values and philosophies of RainCity Housing.
The Opportunity We are seeking
a Board Treasurer who will also serve as the Chair of the Finance Committee. The ideal candidate has prior board experience and financial expertise with a CPA designation.
RainCity Housing seeks Board members who care about people that experience marginalization and have interest and background in the following areas:
Harm reduction philosophy and practices
Poverty and homelessness including understanding of a "housing first" approach
Trauma, mental illness and substance use challenges
Not-for-profit community organizations
A commitment to right relations with Indigenous communities and the principles of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
The approximate hours required from Board Members can be up to 25 - 30 hours annually for Board work plus approximately 20 hours annually for Finance Committee meetings. The term length is two years. The Board Member will have the option to renew at the Annual General Meeting in the month of June.
Board meetings are scheduled five (5) times a year with the occasional ad hoc meeting as required.

Individual Board Member Accountabilities Each individual Board member shall ensure that they familiarize themselves with the duties and responsibilities they have as board members. Each Board member shall:
Be prepared to support the ethical obligations RainCity has towards the communities of people that RainCity serves.
Has read, understands and knows their part in the role of governance at RCH based on RainCity’s bylaws and Governance Manual.
Be prepared to sit and participate on at least one Board Committee.
Attend the majority of Board and Committee meetings.
Be prepared to participate in Board meetings by reviewing Board package material.
Promote the services and programs of RCH to the community at large.
Participate in the recruitment of new Board members.
Abide by and support all Board decisions.
