Join us as we work to electrify life in one generation and build a sustainable future powered by our electricity, our ideas, and our people. Join OPG and make history.

Whether you work in the skilled trades or are a business professional, a career at OPG is an opportunity to electrify your life on – and off – the job.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results‑driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Government Relations.

Reporting to the Director of Federal Government Relations, you will strategically manage and provide leadership for the federal stakeholder and government relations function at OPG. You will be responsible for outreach and engagement efforts with our various federal stakeholders. Be part of the team leading government relations that advances sustainable energy and infrastructure development by bringing together key stakeholders to understand and help further support OPG’s efforts to strengthen energy security and economic growth.

Help catalyze efficient economy‑wide decarbonization and the need for safe, reliable, affordable clean energy solutions through this energy transition in Ontario and across Canada.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design and implement OPG’s federal government relations and stakeholder engagement strategy aligned with business growth and energy transition goals.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including federal officials, industry leaders, and local Indigenous communities to advance OPG’s strategic policy and regulatory interests.
  • Build and execute outreach strategies that foster cross‑industry collaboration, innovation, and position OPG as a clean energy leader in Canada and globally.
  • Represent OPG at key public forums, including conferences, panels, and government roundtables; develop high‑impact speaking materials and presentations.
  • Prepare and brief senior executives for meetings with federal and international stakeholders, ensuring alignment with corporate messaging and objectives.
  • Design stakeholder engagement programs that support business priorities and continuously evaluate effectiveness to drive improvement and alignment with industry trends.
  • Support the development and administration of the annual government relations budget, ensuring strategic use of resources and measurable ROI.
  • Provide strategic direction and mentorship to a high‑performing team; manage day‑to‑day operations while fostering growth and engagement across government relations efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, business, or a related field; an advanced degree and bilingualism (French/English) are assets.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in government relations, public affairs, or policy development; including 3+ years in direct engagement with parliamentarians or elected officials.
  • Strong understanding of legislative processes, decision‑making structures, government procedures, and issues management within highly regulated sectors.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement integrated government and stakeholder relations strategies aligned with corporate objectives in large, complex organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of cultivating productive relationships with government, industry partners, and other external stakeholders.
  • Experience leading strategic initiatives, coordinating cross‑functional teams, and managing multiple outreach programs, events, and concurrent projects.
  • Effective communicator with experience preparing and delivering briefings and presentations to senior leaders, government officials, and diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, curiosity, problem‑solving, and initiative; with a passion for clean energy, sustainability, and innovation—ideally with experience in energy, utilities, or similarly regulated industries.

The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

OPG is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment. If you require accommodation during the selection process, please contact AODA@opg.com

What makes a career at OPG different?

With operations across Ontario, OPG is one of the most diverse power producers in North America. As the largest generator in Ontario, we meet approximately 50% of the province’s electricity needs, largely from low‑carbon sources like nuclear and hydro.

As we work to achieve our vision of Electrifying life in one generation, OPG and our family of companies are also helping advance the development of new low‑carbon technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), refurbishment projects, and electrification initiatives to help power the growing demands of a growing economy. Join OPG and make history.

Please submit your application online at https://jobs.opg.com/. OPG thanks all those who apply; however, only candidates considered for an interview will be contacted.

OPG may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of the applicant screening process. However, applications will also be reviewed by a member of our Recruitment team to ensure a fair and thorough assessment.

OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity‑seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under‑representation of equity‑seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.
