Job Description Are you an Engineer in Mechanical or Naval Architecture looking for an opportunity in the marine industry? Join Fleetway Inc.’s engineering team and be part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and the Halifax Class Design Agent contracts. Fleetway’s engineers provide a full range of technical data management and engineering support services to the Royal Canadian Navy, producing complex designs to support new structures and systems that ensure the Navy is ready to help, ready to lead, and ready to fight.
We are looking for a qualified Mechanical or Naval Architecture Engineer Co‑op student for our St. John's office.
Responsibilities During your internship you will be part of an outstanding group of Naval Architects, Mechanical and Electrical engineers and technologists. We tailor your work experience to your skills and abilities, enabling you to work on specific projects or gain broader exposure across a variety of client projects.
Develop and interpret 3D models of equipment, foundations, piping systems and structures for client vessels.
Create and interpret 2D drawings, including parts, assemblies, installations, and diagrams.
Research vessel documentation, review engineering changes and ensure documentation accuracy.
Work on Engineering Changes (ECs) related to ships, systems and equipment modifications.
Manage and implement ECs, ensuring new or sustained capabilities.
Support projects from initial change to installation and acceptance on board vessels.
Conduct market research, option analysis, system requirement determination, calculations, impact assessments, and write specifications.
Develop technical studies, drawings and specifications for government and commercial vessels.
Report writing and equipment selection.
Perform structural design and analysis.
Work on systems integration projects.
Collaborate with team members.
Conduct engineering analyses such as finite element analysis, weight or stability analysis.
Qualifications
Enrolment in Mechanical Engineering or Ocean Naval Engineering program.
Less than 2 years of experience.
Familiar with AutoCAD.
Interest in Rhino or other 3D modelling software.
Proficient in MS Office Suite.
Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
