Job description
It is acknowledged that Central Okanagan Public Schools operates within the unceded, Traditional Territory of the Okanagan syilx peoples. The School District enrolls approximately 24,000 students (including over 3,000 students who self-identify as having Indigenous ancestry). Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country. There are a total of 50 school sites with 32 Elementary Schools, 8 Middle schools, 5 Secondary Schools, 3 Learning Centres, an Alternate Education School, and an Online Learning School (K-12). Central Okanagan Public Schools has an excellent reputation of providing outstanding, student-centered programs in a diverse and inclusive environment as well as offering a wide range of educational opportunities for its students and staff.We invite applications for the position of:Full-Time Mechanic – Transportation (Heavy Duty)Pay Grade 11 - Job #1138 - $40.02/hour. The workload for this position is forty (40) hours per week, twelve (12) months of the year.In addition to a competitive hourly wage, this position offers an excellent total compensation package including a defined benefit pension plan, extended medical benefits, a generous vacation entitlement, and an amazing, negotiated retirement benefit.JOIN OUR TEAM:Are you a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic who takes pride in keeping equipment safe, reliable, and running at peak performance? We're seeking a full-time Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, support day-to-day operations, and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently. If you have strong mechanical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality workmanship, we encourage you to apply today.Applicants must have:- Completed Grade 12 (Senior Secondary School Graduation);- Interprovincial Heavy-Duty Service Technician Trade Certification with an Interprovincial Commercial Transport Vehicle Trade Certification;- Class 1 or Class 2 Drivers license with Air Endorsement (or be willing to obtain);- CNG Certificate;- Proven experience and demonstrated skills in the use and techniques of tools, equipment and safety precautions pertaining to the use and maintenance of the district fleet vehicles and equipment;- Practical experience with electronic system diagnosis, electronic injection systems, diesel, electric and natural gas powered vehicles, including vehicle components, such as air brake systems, automatic transmissions, air bag systems and hydraulic systems;- Completed the required Health & Safety training.Applicants must be:- Able to carry, lift, push and pull awkward or large heavy objects up to 50 lbs. or more;- Flexible and adaptable to varied working conditions.
