Civil Project Engineer
NSB Omega is searching for a Civil Project Engineer for our MAJOR Utilities Client in St. John's, NL.
Assignment Description
The Civil Engineer will help with the planning, execution, and closeout of multiple projects ensuring alignment with corporate best practices, applicable codes and standards, etc. The role requires proven experience in consultant and contractor oversight with a focus on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) excellence.
The role will be based in St. John’s and is envisioned to support projects primarily situated in Churchill Falls, Muskrat Falls and Soldiers Pond as well as along the Labrador Island Link power corridor. Depending on workload and company requirements this role may also see involvement in projects located in other areas of the province.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide technical support to the Project Manager on various projects (e.g. new building design and construction, renovations to existing building facilities, heavy or municipal civil works, FEED studies, etc.);
• Aid in ensuring contractor compliance with the Client's Contractor Safety Management Plan and corporate and Contractor HSE policies;
• Review tender packages prepared by other consultants and contractors;
• Review shop drawings prepared by contractors and vendors;
• Prepare tender packages for contracts;
• Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs);
• Provide technical input as a design team member for projects and other technical documentation;
• Direct and supervise design consultants and contractors during the completion of specific engagements;
• Review and approve consultant/contractor technical documentation including designs, commissioning procedures and contractor turnover documentation;
• Assist in project closeout activities helping to ensure smooth transition of completed assets to the Client's Operations; and
• Travel to various sites regularly to provide technical input and field support as required.
Qualifications Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering registered with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) association;
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience;
• Experience in building architectural and/or civil design and construction;
• Excellent computer skills including solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
• Ability to work in a dynamic work environment amid changing work demands.
