The Town of Halton Hills is seeking a motivated and experienced Recreation Coordinator – Active Living to lead the development, coordination, and delivery of high‑quality, year‑round Active Living programs for the community.
Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor- Community Programs, this position is responsible for the planning, supervising, and administering a comprehensive suite of recreation programs that promote health, wellness, and inclusion. The Recreation Coordinator works collaboratively with Hillsview Active Living Centres and community partners at the local, regional, and provincial levels to maximize participation, innovation, and community benefit.
Accountabilities:
- Maintain current knowledge of program specialty and industry standards and provide current content within the program design
- Develop, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate a comprehensive range of active living programs, including instructional sport, fitness, and special events
- Implement and monitor compliance with all Town and Department policies, procedures, safety standards, and quality assurance frameworks
- Develop and implement the Active Living work plan
- Provide project management and support long‑range service planning aligned with departmental and corporate priorities
- Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and recognize program staff to ensure high‑quality service delivery
- Design and support volunteer services that enhance programs and special events
- Liaise and collaborate with internal departments, community partners, service providers, elected officials, and external agencies
- Serve as a Department representative on internal and external committees
- Liaise with media to promote programs and services and enhance public awareness
- Ensure customer inquiries, participant communications, and issue resolution are addressed in a timely, professional, and proactive manner
- Develop and maintain schedules, staffing plans, inventories, and program systems
- Administer and monitor approved operating budgets for Active Living services
- Order and manage equipment and supplies related to program delivery
- Maintain statistical information, documentation, and reports to support planning and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Town policies, including staff certifications and facility safety standards
- Perform other related duties consistent with the scope of the position
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Recreation, Kinesiology, Fitness and Health Promotion or related field considered an asset
- Over 3 years’ experience coordinating recreation programs in a municipal setting
- Specialty knowledge or recognized qualifications around working with older adults
- Experience in program planning and implementation
- Fitness certification in Can Fit or CCAA- SFIC considered an asset
- Standard First Aid/CPRC
- Parks and Recreation Ontario HIGH FIVE® PHA certification
- Proven customer service skills and working with the public
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
- Ability to ensure high level of confidentiality is maintained
- Police Records Check-Vulnerable Sector
- Physical ability to complete job duties including some lifting of equipment may be required for set-up or clean-up of program space
Compensation:
The rate of pay for this position (35 hours per week), $45.12/hour -$53.71. This position will work primarily daytime hours between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and scheduled programs as required, including some evenings and weekends.
