Team Overview The Safety, Security, Compliance, and Emergency Response team ensures the safe and secure operation of Calgary International and Springbank Airports. This team plays a critical role in regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and operational assurance, directly impacting the airports’ efficiency and safety.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the Airport Operational Compliance & Assurance Program, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and continuous improvement.
Develop and manage the Airport Safety and Safety Management System (SMS), including OH&S strategy and compliance.
Oversee the Airport Security Program, liaising with Transport Canada and external security agencies.
Provide strategic leadership and administration for the team, including budget management and stakeholder engagement.
Lead the Emergency Preparedness and Response Program, including training, AEOC operations, and contingency planning.
Manage contracts for ARFF and EMS services, ensuring compliance and performance standards.
Liaise with external agencies to maintain mutual aid agreements.
Report on KPIs and provide expert advice to executive leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications
Eligible to obtain and maintain a RAIC; assistance will be provided.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Aviation Studies, Industrial Health and Safety, Public Safety, Emergency Preparedness/Business/Risk Management or related field. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
10–15 years of experience in safety management within the aviation industry, including direct responsibility for regulatory compliance, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), and Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role (such as Director or equivalent) overseeing safety, security, or emergency preparedness teams within an airport or aviation environment.
Working knowledge of Transport Canada Canadian Aviation Regulations and standards related to aerodrome operations and safety.
Experience reporting at executive and board level on compliance.
Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required due to safety-sensitive nature of the position.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and current driver’s abstract required, as the role includes driving duties.
Additional Skills
Bilingual in English and French
Graduate-level education such as MBA or specialized advanced degrees.
Previous emergency service experience, preferably in airport firefighting.
