Job Title: Manual QA / Test EngineerJob DescriptionThis role focuses on manual quality assurance and testing for embedded consumer devices, supporting software teams that develop and maintain device firmware and related software. You will primarily execute manual test cases created by the QA organization, while also contributing to the design and maintenance of additional manual tests where coverage is needed. You will work closely with test automation engineers to align manual and automated test coverage, helping to support a broader strategic shift toward automation. The position is ideal for a self-driven, proactive tester with approximately 2–5 years of relevant experience who is comfortable working on-site several days per week in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Execute manual test cases provided by the QA and Test Engineering teams for embedded device software releases.
- Perform functional testing on embedded consumer devices to verify that features behave as expected.
- Conduct regression testing to ensure that new changes do not introduce defects into existing functionality.
- Carry out smoke testing to validate the stability of new builds and releases.
- Perform exploratory testing to identify edge cases, usability issues, and unexpected behaviors on consumer devices.
- Create and update manual test cases and test scenarios to address coverage gaps and improve overall test quality.
- Partner closely with test automation engineers to ensure that manual testing aligns with automation efforts and supports long-term automation goals.
- Reproduce reported issues and defects consistently to aid in root cause analysis.
- Document defects clearly with detailed steps to reproduce, expected versus actual results, and any relevant screenshots or logs.
- Track defects through their lifecycle, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure timely resolution and retesting.
- Review device and application logs to support troubleshooting and validation of issues.
- Perform connectivity and integration testing, including Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and API-related scenarios, to ensure reliable communication and interoperability.
- Use Linux or command-line tools to interact with devices, gather logs, and perform device-level testing activities.
- Collaborate with Developers, Embedded Engineers, Product teams, and other stakeholders during on-site workdays to clarify requirements, discuss issues, and refine test coverage.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes and practices as the organization increases its focus on automated testing.
Essential Skills- Approximately 2–5 years of hands-on manual QA and software testing experience.
- Proven experience executing manual test cases for embedded systems or consumer devices.
- Practical exposure to embedded systems or consumer device testing, including device-level validation.
- Hands-on experience performing functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing.
- Experience with connectivity and integration testing, including Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and APIs.
- Ability to reproduce, document, and track defects with clear steps, supporting evidence, and impact assessment.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Developers, Embedded Engineers, and Product teams.
- Basic proficiency with Linux or Unix environments and command-line usage for device testing and log collection.
- Comfort working in an environment that uses CI/CD practices for software delivery.
- Self-driven, proactive approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Ability to work on-site approximately three days per week to support collaboration and coordination with the team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience writing manual test cases and test scenarios, including both positive and negative test paths.
- Exposure to test automation concepts, frameworks, or tools, and an interest in supporting a transition toward greater automation.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting device or application logs to diagnose issues.
- Familiarity with Linux or Unix environments and basic command-line tools beyond the essentials, especially for device-level operations.
- Experience working with laboratory or test equipment such as power supplies and related bench tools.
- Knowledge of or experience with e-book formats such as EPUB and PDF.
- Exposure to Agile or Scrum-based development environments, including participation in ceremonies such as stand-ups, planning, and retrospectives.
- Interest in contributing to the growth and scaling of test automation infrastructure over time.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a dynamic, collaborative environment that focuses on modern development practices and a strategic shift toward automated testing. Team members typically work in the office around three days per week, with the option to be on-site up to five days if preferred, to facilitate close collaboration, mentoring, and real-time problem solving. In-office days are coordinated within the team rather than fixed, so you will be expected to align your schedule with colleagues to maximize overlap for joint testing, debugging sessions, and planning. You will work with embedded consumer devices and related test setups, using Linux or Unix command-line tools, connectivity testing setups (such as Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth), and various device logging tools. The culture values proactive and collaborative individuals who take ownership of their work, contribute ideas to improve QA and automation practices, and are comfortable balancing autonomy with teamwork in a flexible hybrid environment.
