This Global manufacturing company located in Vaughan, is looking for a Production Manager for a full time 1 year contract (potential extension). The successful candidate is responsible for supporting production supervisors on staffing, scheduling, and overall production performance while driving growth in output, quality, and revenue through effective team leadership and operational oversight.
Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership and direction to production supervisors fostering a culture of safety, quality, reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement aligned with Lean principles.
Review production and operational performance data to measure productivity, identify cost-reduction opportunities, eliminate waste, and drive process optimization initiatives.
Partner closely with the Director on budgeting and financial planning to fund operations, maximize capital investments, and improve manufacturing efficiency and profitability.
Direct and coordinate the effective utilization of materials, equipment, plant facilities, and manpower to achieve business plan targets for production, productivity, quality, and revenue growth.
Develop and manage production schedules based on work orders, capacity planning, and customer requirements, ensuring adherence to timelines and on-time delivery commitments.
Lead daily and periodic cross-functional shift meetings to align on production goals, reinforce standard work, resolve operational challenges, and strengthen interdisciplinary communication.
Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), conduct trend analysis, and track results against budgeted and strategic production targets to support data-driven decision-making.
Champion Lean manufacturing implementation, including 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, visual management and waste reduction, embedding continuous improvement into all production processes.
Formulate and recommend manufacturing policies, methods, and process improvements that enhance operational effectiveness, maintain good manufacturing practices (GMP), and increase overall plant profitability.
Oversee materials management and the efficient movement of goods into and out of production facilities to ensure operational flow, cost control, and supply chain integration.
Develop and sustain high-performing teams across production supervision, materials control, maintenance, continuous improvement and quality functions, promoting employee engagement and positive labor relations.
Monitor and evaluate supplier performance and work closely with supply chain management to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of goods and services that support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
Foster a culture of accountability, empowerment, and protection that encourages bottom-up problem solving, employee involvement, and ownership of continuous improvement initiatives.
Continually improves safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Recommend locations to improve productivity and/or oversee the remodeling or renovating of current facilities.
Ensures compliance to company policies and procedure
Requirements:
Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in industrial manufacturing environments, with at least 5 years in plant leadership roles overseeing production, operations, and cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated experience implementing and sustaining Lean manufacturing initiatives (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, root cause analysis); Lean/Six Sigma certification strongly preferred.
Proven track record of driving continuous improvement, operational excellence, cost reduction, and productivity gains within a manufacturing setting.
Strong financial and business acumen, with the ability to interpret technical documents, operational data, financial reports, and performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making.
Solid analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to apply ratios, percentages, and production metrics to practical manufacturing and process optimization scenarios.
Effective leader with the ability to influence, coach, and engage teams across all levels of the organization, fostering accountability and a culture of continuous improvement.
Demonstrated strength in strategic planning, organizational development, problem-solving, and independent decision-making in a fast-paced plant environment.
Collaborative team builder with strong employee relations and cross-functional management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Crystal Reports) and experienced with ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate operational strategies and performance expectations.
