Equipment Manager
to join their team full‑time on‑site in
Ottawa East, Ontario.
The successful Equipment Manager will manage and oversee all construction equipment operations, ensuring equipment availability, reliability, and cost efficiency across multiple job sites. Working closely with field crews, the warehouse coordinator, operations manager, suppliers, and project managers, they will coordinate equipment needs to support project schedules.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Equipment Manager will be responsible for equipment procurement, preventive maintenance, tracking, and lifecycle management of a diverse fleet of construction equipment and vehicles. They will manage budgets, control costs, and build strong vendor relationships to ensure timely and cost‑effective sourcing of equipment and parts. The role requires a strong focus on safety and compliance, including adherence to CVOR regulations and industry standards. Using excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills, the Equipment Manager will optimize equipment performance, minimize downtime, and support efficient, safe construction operations.
Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include: Fleet & Equipment Management
Oversee the full lifecycle of company equipment (procurement, utilization, maintenance, and disposal)
Maintain an accurate inventory of all tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment across warehouse and jobsites
Standardize equipment and fleet specifications and monitor performance for efficiency improvements
Ensure compliance with CVOR and safety regulations Maintenance & Repairs
Develop and enforce preventative maintenance programs and coordinate repairs with internal staff and external service providers
Minimize downtime by prioritizing critical equipment readiness
Maintain service records, inspections, and warranties
Logistics & Dispatch Oversight
Oversee dispatch of equipment, materials, and tools to jobsites
Coordinate delivery priority with project managers and site supervisors
Supervise drivers and ensure safe, efficient transport and scheduling
Inventory & Warehouse Oversight
Supervise warehouse operations
Manage inventory control systems, tool tracking, and stock levels
Optimize warehouse and yard layout for efficiency and safety
Lead, schedule, and support warehouse staff and delivery drivers
Monitor performance, provide coaching, and support hiring and training
Enforce company policies and safety standards
Budgeting & Cost Control
Manage fleet and equipment budgets, including maintenance and operating costs
Identify cost‑saving opportunities (bulk purchasing, repair vs. replace decisions)
Manage rentals, and repairs while optimizing cost efficiency and ROI
Track utilization and report to owners quarterly on equipment and fleet performance and budget forecasts
Source and procure equipment, tools, and parts
Maintain supplier and vendor relationships and negotiate pricing and service agreements
Set purchasing and rental rates with all suppliers
Evaluate vendor performance and reliability
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and operators are trained
Enforce proper use, inspection, and maintenance of equipment
Support COR compliance and participate in incident investigations
Reporting & Strategic Planning
Develop and implement strategies for the efficient utilization of all equipment, ensuring that all equipment is used effectively to maximize productivity and efficiency
Support capital planning, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives
Implement systems to improve tracking, dispatch, and overall operations
Cross-Department Coordination
Work closely with project managers to forecast equipment needs
Co‑ordinate with accounting for asset tracking and depreciation
Support estimating team with equipment costing and availability
Align with operations on scheduling, priorities, and resource allocation
Yard & Operational Oversight
Ensure yard and warehouse are organized, safe, and operationally efficient
Manage space, staging, and seasonal readiness
Qualifications:
Bilingual in French and English with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally across teams and suppliers in both written and verbal formats
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field is an asset, OR equivalent work experience
5+ years of relevant experience in equipment management, delivery, logistics, or construction‑related work
Strong working knowledge of construction tools and equipment, purchasing, repairs, preventative maintenance, consumables, and heavy equipment commonly used on jobsites
Current WHMIS certification with a solid understanding of workplace hazardous materials handling
Valid certifications in propane handling, working at heights, forklift/telehandler operation, and Elevated Work Platform (EWP) operation an asset
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Working knowledge in structural steel equipment commonly used on jobsites
Proficient in using digital tools and systems (e.g., Office 365, Adobe, Google Workspace, HILTI ON!TRACK) for tracking deliveries, documentation, and communication
Strong technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot general computer, software, and hardware issues to support daily operations
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely handle, load, and unload construction materials and operate or work around heavy equipment
Proven leadership skills that demonstrate the ability to manage and direct warehouse team
Highly analytical and detail‑oriented, with the ability to review data, identify discrepancies, and ensure accuracy in operational processes and reporting
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, coordinate workflows, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
Self‑directed and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership over assigned tasks and operational outcomes
Proactively identifies process improvements and takes initiative to support operational efficiency and team effectiveness
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, detail oriented with the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally and contribute positively to a team environment

Physically capable of independently handling, lifting, and transporting medium to heavy construction materials (up to 40 kg)
