A growing Canadian mining operator is seeking a Senior Tailings Engineer to support tailings governance and technical oversight activities across its operations in Quebec. This role sits at a more senior technical level and will work closely with operations leadership, technical services, and external advisors to support safe, compliant, and well-governed tailings management.
This position requires full professional fluency in French.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical oversight and governance support for tailings storage facilities across operations
• Support alignment with GISTM, dam safety standards, and internal governance frameworks
• Interface with EORs, Independent Tailings Review Boards, and regulatory stakeholders
• Support risk identification, mitigation planning, and ongoing performance monitoring of TSFs
• Contribute to technical reviews, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with site operations, projects, and leadership teams to support long-term tailings strategy
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to developing engineers where required
Requirements
• Approximately 8-12 years’ experience in tailings engineering / geotechnical engineering
• Experience operating within tailings governance and dam safety frameworks
• Strong understanding of TSF design, operation, and closure
• Exposure to GISTM and industry best practices related to tailings governance
• Ability to operate effectively between corporate and site stakeholders
• Full professional fluency in French and English
• Degree in Civil / Geotechnical / Mining Engineering
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or equivalent)
