Job description
GFL Environmental is looking for a Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team in Fort St. John, BC! We are currently offering a competitive Sign-On Bonus for qualified journeypersons to join Team Green. At GFL, Heavy Duty Mechanics play a crucial role in keeping local neighborhoods clean and safe by ensuring our trucks and motorized equipment are up and running smoothly. Whether rebuilding, repairing, or performing maintenance on our fleet, our Mechanics are essential to our business and quickly become our Drivers' favorite people. Teamwork makes the dream work! A Day in the Life of a GFL Mechanic: - Perform maintenance and repairs on diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated trucks and heavy-duty equipment. - Utilize various power tools, hand instruments, and cutting-edge diagnostic equipment. - Complete daily reports, work orders, and part procurement. - Plan and schedule repairs using the M5 planner system. - Collaborate on mechanical write-ups and coordinate regional repair schedules. What's Required: - Certification: Completion of a recognized Heavy Duty Mechanic apprenticeship and current Red Seal or B.C. Journeyperson certification. - Licensing: Valid Class 5 driver's license with the ability to operate heavy-duty vehicles safely. - Experience: Proven expertise in diagnosing and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. - Safety: Ability to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions per Company standards. - Physicality: Ability to exert physical effort, including lifting items up to 100 lbs.
